Solution

To find:
• The closest value of the given expression $$\frac{\frac{7}{8} + \frac{1}{9}}{\frac{1}{2}}$$

Approach and Working:

We can approximate the given values in the following manner:
$$\frac{7}{8} + \frac{1}{9}$$ ~ $$\frac{7}{8} + \frac{1}{8}$$ ~ $$\frac{8}{8}$$ ~ 1

Hence, the expression $$\frac{\frac{7}{8} + \frac{1}{9}}{\frac{1}{2}}$$ becomes $$1/{\frac{1}{2}}$$ = 2

Hence, the correct answer is option A.

$$\frac{1}{9}~\frac{1}{8}$$ so $$\frac{7}{8}+\frac{1}{9}~\frac{1}{8}+\frac{7}{8}=1$$
and $$1*\frac{1}{2}=\frac{1}{2}$$

I solved by keeping in mind some percentages.
1/8 is 12.5%, so 7/8 is 87.5%
1/11 is ~9%
Adding them, you almost get 100%, which is 1. Multiplied by 2 = 2.

Or, $$\frac{\frac{63+8}{72}}{\frac{1}{2}}$$

Or, $$\frac{\frac{71}{72}}{\frac{1}{2}}$$

Now, the Denominator can be considered as 1, so we are left with -

Or, $$\frac{1}{\frac{1}{2}}$$

Hence, the answer must be (A) 2...

Multiplying the fraction by 72/72, we have:

(63 + 8)/36 = 71/36, which is about 2.

Alternate solution:

If we approximate 1/9 as 1/8, then we have:

(7/8 + 1/8)/(1/2) = 1/(1/2) = 2

The value of $$\frac{\frac{7}{8} + \frac{1}{9}}{\frac{1}{2}}$$ is closest to which of the following?

\frac{7}{8} + \frac{1}{9} = \frac{63+8}{72} = \frac{71}{72} = 1 approx
