Solution

To find:
    • The closest value of the given expression \(\frac{\frac{7}{8} + \frac{1}{9}}{\frac{1}{2}}\)

Approach and Working:

We can approximate the given values in the following manner:
\(\frac{7}{8} + \frac{1}{9}\) ~ \(\frac{7}{8} + \frac{1}{8}\) ~ \(\frac{8}{8}\) ~ 1

Hence, the expression \(\frac{\frac{7}{8} + \frac{1}{9}}{\frac{1}{2}}\) becomes \(1/{\frac{1}{2}}\) = 2

Hence, the correct answer is option A.

Answer: A

\(\frac{1}{9}~\frac{1}{8}\) so \(\frac{7}{8}+\frac{1}{9}~\frac{1}{8}+\frac{7}{8}=1\)
and \(1*\frac{1}{2}=\frac{1}{2}\)

I solved by keeping in mind some percentages.
1/8 is 12.5%, so 7/8 is 87.5%
1/11 is ~9%
Adding them, you almost get 100%, which is 1. Multiplied by 2 = 2.

Or, \(\frac{\frac{63+8}{72}}{\frac{1}{2}}\)

Or, \(\frac{\frac{71}{72}}{\frac{1}{2}}\)

Now, the Denominator can be considered as 1, so we are left with -

Or, \(\frac{1}{\frac{1}{2}}\)

Hence, the answer must be (A) 2...

Multiplying the fraction by 72/72, we have:

(63 + 8)/36 = 71/36, which is about 2.

Alternate solution:

If we approximate 1/9 as 1/8, then we have:

(7/8 + 1/8)/(1/2) = 1/(1/2) = 2

Answer: A
