The width of a rectangle w is twice the length of the rectangle. Which of the following equals the area of the rectangle in terms of w?

(A) \(w\)

(B) \(2w^2\)

(C) \(3w^2\)

(D) \(\frac{w^2}{2}\)

(E) \(\frac{w^2}{4}\)

We see that the length of the rectangle is w/2, and thus the area of the rectangle is:

w/2 * w = w^2/2
