Solution

Given:
    • Yoga for Life offers 45-minute classes at $12 per class
    • Number of minutes Randolf spent during yoga this month was 132 greater than the number of dollars he paid

To find:
    • Number of classes that Randolf attended this month

Approach and Working:
If we assume that number of classes attended by Randolf is x, then
    • Number of dollars Randolf paid = 12x
    • Number of minutes Randolf spent = 12x + 132

As every class takes 45 minutes, we can say
    • 45x = 12x + 132
    Or, 33x = 132
    Or, x = 4

Hence, the correct answer is option B.

The yoga company Yoga for Life offers 45-minute classes at $12 per class. If the number of minutes Randolf spent doing yoga this month was 132 greater than the number of dollars he paid, how many classes did he attend?
(A) 3
(B) 4
(C) 5
(D) 6
(E) 8

Let he attended X classes.Therefore total number of minutes he attended = 45*X minutes, and total money spent is 12*X
From Question, it's given that 12X -132= 45X
=>33X= 132
=> X=4
B is the answer.

Let the total number of classes Randlof attended be x

we can translate the question to form an equation:

45x=12x+132....................paying a careful attention on the second line of the question. Minutes is the base to form this equation.
33x=132
x=4.

Thus the Best answer is B.

Back solving can also be used to solve this one quickly.

We can let n = the number of classes Randolf attended. Thus, the number of minutes he spent is 45n, and the number of dollars he paid is 12n. We can create the equation:

45n = 12n + 132

33n = 132

n = 4

Total Minutes
M = 45x
Total Cost
C = 12x

45x = 12x + 132
33x = 132
x = 4
