A. 60
B. 75
C. 120
D. 150
E. 750
Solution:

We can let 3x, 5x, and 7x be the number of cookies that Sharon, Carol, and Elinor have, respectively. We can create the equation:

3x = 15

x = 5

Since the total number of cookies, in terms of x, is 3x + 5x + 7x = 15x, the total number of cookies is 15(5) = 75.

Given: Three hungry children, Sharon, Carol, and Elinor, agree to divide a batch of cookies in the ratio 3 : 5 : 7, respectively.
Asked: If Sharon’s share was 15 cookies, how many cookies were in that batch?

Let Sharon, Carol, and Elinor have 3k, 5k & 7k cookies respectively

Since Sharon's share was 15 cookies
3k = 15
k = 5

Cookies in the batch = 3k + 5k + 7k = 15k = 15*5 = 75
