TO BE verb understanding

Question

Hi, i am slowly starting to refresh my english grammar basics and being still rusty, i'm having trouble understanding the verb TO BE. How can the word(s) TO BE represent Am, Is,Are etc?

Can someone help me understand or point me in the right direction please as i am stuck in understanding the usage.

To Be does not represent the Am,Are ,etc. "To Be" is a verb form and is the most simple and versatile verb form. The earlier two sentences already have 2 forms of "To Be" in them. You should refer to some English grammar site for this.

I should warn you that English grammar is an ocean and GMAT requires only a drop of it.

I started reading some of my grammar books and the progress I made for GMAT preparation seemed very less. Best way IMO would be to start reading GMAT SC books or some free online tutorials. Just google and you will find plenty.

I hope I'm not sidetracking the thread.

The verb changes form so that we can convey the information we want to convey. For example:

1.  Have  can change to  had  to indicate the past tense.
2.  Have  can change to  has  to show that we have a singular subject.
...

Be  also changes to accomplish similar objectives. For example:

1. You can stay with  be  if you want to issue a directive.
2. You can switch to  are  if your subject is plural.
3. You can use  were  if you're talking about the past.
