Still implies that the activity is still continuing, the correct usage here should be 'yet'. So options D and E are out.
Comma is expected because of two independent clauses. Option C out.

Now between A and B, I chose A. I found both options correct but option A weighed in more. I may be wrong but I believe the two clauses are not parallel in 'Aristotle implied' and 'critics keep coming back'. 'Yet' demands parallelism. However, 'and+comma' can disregard the parallelism.
Need expert opinion to confirm my understanding.

Hi,

Could you please help me understand the difference between 'yet' and 'and yet' in options A & B. Also if you can encapsulate the best usage between 'yet' and 'still'. Thank you

Hello Purvidebuka,

We hope this finds you well.

Having gone through the question and your query, we believe we can resolve your doubt.

There is no functional difference between "yet" and "and yet"; "yet" is used to show contrast, and the addition of "and" before it merely serves to add emphasis.

Further, there is no particular relation between "yet" and "still". However, using the two together can be redundant, if both are used to convey contrast.

We hope this helps.
All the best!

Here First sentence is IC and second sentence is DC If there are two IC then only they can be joined by comma + fanboy . Thus B should be more accurate
Can anyone explain this?

Hello datasatanic,

We hope this finds you well.

To answer your query, in this sentence "and yet" functions as a combined conjunction phrase; thus, the structure of the sentence is two independent clauses joined by the "comma + conjunction ("and yet" in this case) construction.

We hope this helps.

I have come across another SC ques in which choice E is rejected because "and yet" is used together. Can you please help resolve the paradox?

Use of 'and yet' is redundant
Use of only 'yet' serves adequately the purpose of separating two independent clauses..

However, in the present context, there is emphasis implied.."despite Aristotle's clarification, the critics keep referring to the inconsistency'

Hence, A is the answer !!

I would strongly recommend skipping this one. This just isn't how we're asked to think on the GMAT. The author clearly wants you to make one very specific choice about one very specific part of the sentence and nothing else. But there isn't as much difference between "yet" and "still," or between "yet" and "and yet" as the writer seems to believe. Even if there were, the GMAT would give you at least one other issue to work with, and the sentence would also have a clearer meaning that might clarify which choice made most sense. Because this sentence was taken from a longer text without any supporting context, it's hard to make any definitive statement about what it's trying to say.
