on a different note...can anyone help me find a ranking or sumthing that can tell me about the top schools if i want a career in management consulting.....cant seem to find anything on the net...

I work in management consulting currently and pretty much all the schools you've applied to and would expect are the top ones (i.e., Harvard, Chicago, MIT, Kellogg, Dartmouth, Darden, Texas, Tepper)

All the top consulting firms McK, Bain, BCG, and Booz hire significantly from these schools.

If you want stats you can check school websites and also US News and report usually has rankings.
thanks man....what if i had to choose between duke and ross?? which one would be better??

oh ok...well, i applied to 3 of those and got dings there....wasnt even invited to interview....at mccombs, i was invited to interview and i had a pretty strong profile...so the ding was surprising..but i guess something did not "fit" in....

Man, thats a shame. Have you used any admissions counselors? Like we all said, your profile def looks good, so there must be something there in the essays that's throwing the ad coms off.

Some essay editing services do a thorough review of your essays at a pretty decent price, both for content and grammar etc., I'd def suggest it.

I did.. many times actually... recently mailed them on Jan 6 (with my updated resume) and got a reply saying

"Thank you for your email.
Your application is still in the review process. We will add this information to your file."

i sent the transcripts by regular mail. the application page shows them as received...

If you have been selected to both schools or even if you are deciding in which one to apply I would suggest talk to Alums and current students of the school. Secondly, if you are in the country and money is not a concern it might be worth visiting each school to get a good idea about schools culture etc.

If you have not already done this go to each school's site and look for current students who are specializing in your area of interest and shoot them an email. Most of the students are generally very responsive and will answer most of your queries.

For sure call them or email them. I had some weird thing with my app and called and they were super nice. They had problems with their system, so your app might be stuck somewhere. When I called they looked it up and told me that they would be reviewing it the following week. But I would still have backups for sure

I doubt it.

A couple things. First, the average GMAT for accepted applicants for any year for Texas (and most schools not named Harvard or Stanford) is going to be considerably higher than the average score of those who go on to attend. I'll bet if you look at last year's GMATClub you'll find that the average GMAT score of accepted applicants was over 700. Texas' yield for high GMATers is going to be a lot lower than its yield for low GMATers.

Second, because of the nature of rolling admissions, they'll accept -- on the whole -- the strongest applicants first. That's not to say on an individual level they actually liked person A better than person B, but all else being equal, it's likely that those accepted December 17th they were more sure they wanted than those they're going to offer January 30th. One aspect of "wanting" an applicant more is having a GMAT score that's high, so on the whole, those getting accepted earlier will have higher GMAT scores.

While I'll bet both are at work here, I'll bet the first accounts for the majority of the difference.

(one other possible explanation that I am far less sure of is this: those who have other significant factors going for them to off-set a low GMAT score are less likely to spend time perusing a message board.)
