Hi there,

Can someone please let me know if the Kaplan free GMAT practice exam comes with question by question answer explanation as to why a certain answer is correct whereas the rest of the answer choices are incorrect?

I understand that it gives a detailed scored analysis. and I am assuming that just mean a breakdown of the areas/categories/sub-categories of the material tested. Am I correct?

Also, do the GMATPrep provides question by question answer explanation? as well as a detailed analysis by tested topics?

Thanks so much.

Dear all,
I just purchased Kaplan Premier 2011, and I have two questions.

1. Kaplan Premier 2011 comes with a CD, and also an online subscription to Kaplan's website. The CD contains 4 CAT tests, and the website has also 4 online CAT tests. I was wondering if the CAT tests on the CD have the same content as the online CAT tests. Can anybody please advice?

2. I read on this board that the Kaplan CAT tests generally score in the 600s. I was wondering if Kaplan has updated its scoring system, or if it has watered down its CAT test questions available from Kaplan Premier 2011. I just did a test, and scored pretty reasonably. If there is a much harder Kaplan CAT test available, can anybody please tell me how to get my hands on it?

Thanks for all your help!

Paul
Hi Paul

1. The same tests are provided to you in two different formats, to ensure you can practice anywhere--whether you have your own computer, or not internet access.

2. Remember, CATs are adaptive--they're as hard as you make them! A few of our older tests may have had some issues with the scoring algorithms, which we've since resolved. However, those tests were still adaptive; you would have therefore seen problems at the same level of difficulty you're currently facing, and just gotten a lower number score. I'd stick with the 4 Premier CATs--they'll go a long way!

Hope this helps!

Eli

hello sir.i have appeared the KAPLAN free mock.does the score test reflect the actual GMAT score, not in exact way ,but a score closer to the real GMAT score?

Hi JAIN09,

The other posts in this thread are about 6 years old (or older), so I don't think that you'll receive a response from any of those posters. In answer to your question though, the scoring algorithm on the Official GMAT is far more complicated than most people realize. Since that algorithm is proprietary, no GMAT company has an exact match for it, thus CAT scores can vary a bit based on the 'biases' involved in their respective designs. The most realistic CATs available are the 6 from GMAC, but the CATs from Kaplan, MGMAT and Veritas are all 'close enough' to the real thing that they will provide you with a relatively realistic score assessment (assuming that you use the CAT correctly).

Before I can offer you any additional advice on how to improve, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your goal score?
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
7) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
