any one knows whether an early interview invite indicates a good sign? Got the invite late Jan and did the on-campus interview early Feb.... Wish it could be a positive sign..... I am an international applicant, btw

Trying to read the tea leaves is impossible and will drive you nuts. At the two schools I've received decisions, I received interview invites essentially the first day or two they came out and have been waitlisted at both.

When schools say there is nothing behind the order, there is nothing behind the order. It all depends upon when they read your application.

Then wondered is there any sign that you can tell whether you are preferred or not? The business schools have been coming into existence for decades. It's quite unbelievable that the black box still remains black....
(a) its a moving target -- the system changes year to year, and (b) there's imperfect public information available. we can't run regressions on past metrics to figure out a formula, and due to point "a", it wouldn't matter if you could. short of speculation, the only indication any of us has of our "chances" is the rule of thumb they quote at campus visits: 40% of applicants get interviews, 40% interviewed get accepted, 40% accepted get $$.
let's all take solace in knowing that there's nothing more we can do, and do our best to distract ourselves for the next 8 days.

i've seriously been going nuts waiting for the decision. wharton is my top choice and has always been the school I wanted to go to, but the insanity of waiting is making me wonder, would I be better off going to Yale since that brand is more recognized outside the US than UPenn or going to Cornell since they've offered me a very generous scholarship? If I make that decision, I'll escape the stress of the next 8 days and the disappointment that might follow thereafter. :-p

Is there really a huge difference in future professional prospects if you pick Wharton versus Yale? What about Cornell?

I'm with you on the wait being crazy, but to be honest we have to admit that 8 days is nothing compared to the months since deciding to apply, doing the app, talking to recommenders, submitting the app, waiting for the interview invite and finally interviewing, all of which led us to this point not many people were fortunate enough to reach.
Also, just think about how you'd feel if Wharton was your last chance for an MBA next year? In my case the Booth admit dropped the stress level quite a bit.

About the decisions between Wharton and school X: you will know for sure on 3/30 :)))) (Hey, you know I'm right).

It really depends on your career development goal. Wharton is strong in a general way, particular in finance/consulting. Yale is probably a better choice if you wanna pursue a NPO/government career. Dont know too much about Johnson. And the place you wanna work upon graduation matters too. where are you from?

So is it pretty much accepted that calls will take place Thursday the 29th and that everyone will find out Friday morning? There's a post in the Wharton WL thread of someone saying his friend that was a R2 applicant received an acceptance earlier this week, but I am skeptical given that I have seen no early movement for Wharton anywhere else.

From my understanding Wharton does not call admitted students the day before. Many (not all) admitted students are called in the morning/early afternoon on the decision day. I don't believe they got to everyone in R1 because many found out about their admit via app status change.

I agree with what everyone said there is no certain way to read interview invites because the same thing could be said for those who got their interviews last. One could hypothesis that they Penn thought that they were either the worst of the invites. Or that even after sending invites to do many people these group still stuck out and grabbed the adcomms attention. Anything goes. To do something fun. Lol maybe u should go see the hunger games...believe me the plot would distract u from Wharton for a while.

Just took a cue from the waitlisters thread...previous application decision (invited to interview) is now gone from applyyourself. I know we still have 4 days, but it looks like they're starting to move!

I still see Invited to Interview right under Submitted Date...The plot thickens.

Are you referring to the actual letter inviting us to interview? That is gone for me as well (and was up yesterday). However I still have a line that says "Invited to Interview" under Submission Status.

As you said it seems like they are moving. Someone, somewhere, knows my fate.

Oohh, the letter? That's gone for me too. What exactly are we supposed to be looking for and totally freaked out by?

Cheeterah...I think we are seeing the same thing. My apply status page looks like:

Application for Admission (Deadline Has Passed)

Submission Status: Submitted
Submitted Date: xx/xx/xxxx
Invited to Interview

Below the Recommenders, the letter has been deleted.

To answer your question about what should we be totally freaked out by? The answer is everything...at least when it comes to an approaching decision date.
