I clearly don't know for certain but I doubt that where you do you interview matters; I'm sure the adcom wants the create the most equal playing field as possible. Also, bear in mind the interview is just one small part of the overall picture. I personally didn't have a the greatest interview, which not due to bad performance but bad chemistry between my interviewer. Nonetheless, I'm not overly concerned. I'd hope to believe that the adcom knows that interviews are highly subjective especially given the small time frame and behavioral framework. I've also heard from current students and recent alumni that the interview isn't overly important.

This waiting game isn't fun but no need to speculate about little things that may or may not hurt and application - that will surely drive one insane.

Guys, any of you have any idea on the pass rate of interview by hub, adcom fellow and alum? Any difference reported? I finished my on-campus interview last week (probably the last day of on-campus interview) and would like someone give some hints on the pass rate to relief nerves a little bit. Thanks.

Honestly? I'm not sure...

If you are international, however, I have my hunch. Most people that got called early that I know and got to interview in my hub city (Sao Paulo) got in. However, those who got invited later and had to travel to Philly because there were no more slots in the hub available, got denied. And I got waitlisted and was invited to interview later for an international applicant.

However, for domestic applicants, I don't think timing matters at all.

I do think the international applicants who get the preference of the hub slots are in a slight advantage though.

Good luck.

I agree with you. When they sent out invites to international at the very last minute, they knew there were no spaces at hub. So my guess they are not counting on this group to fill the main body of students but only as a back up. Anyone disagrees?

Guys,

Can anyone let me know when Wharton start sending out decisions for the Round 2 applications. I had my interview in India on the 15th and was wondering if the results will start flowing out a week before or right on deadline date on the 1st April.

Thanks

Wharton only announces on the deadline date. They do call some admitted applicants to congratulate them prior to the status update. However, they do NOT call everyone. In R1 there were quite a few admits who did not get the call first and found out when the online status updated.

Was this for Round 2 that you interviewed last week? I thought all interviews were supposed to be completed by early march? Interesting.

The last day for on-campus R2 interviews was March 13th. I met around 5-6 people in the waiting room and I was there only for an hour, so they must have interviewed close to 30 people that day.

2/23 was a month ago. Mine says Decision Status: Available beginning 2/x/2012 too but a different day of the month, which reflects when I got the interview invite.

I don't think there is anything new here. At least I hope not.

I think March 13 was originally the last day for interviews, however they extended the interviews for at least 1 more day - and possibly through the end of the week in order to accomodate everyone who was invited to interview.

After we submitted our applications everyone should have received an email with the subject: Wharton Round Two Information. In that email from the Admissions Committee it says,

The Admissions Committee will release interview invitations between Thursday, January 26th and Tuesday, February 28th. Due to the nature and complexity associated with the admissions process there is no particular order in which invitations are released.

I choose to believe this. They have a lot of applications to get through and it is easier for them to start setting up interviews as they work through application reviews. If your invite was early it most likely means they just got to your app before the person's who was invited a week or two after you.

Other people disagree and think the timing of the invite means Wharton likes a candidate more or less. If it makes you feel better to take the early invite as a positive sign, feel free. However, I think it best not to cause that type of speculation because while it can make YOU feel better, it can unnecessarily add to the stress of those who were invited later in the process.

Your status will not change until decision day. A few days prior to your interview you should have received an email with the subject: Wharton Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Interview Reminder. That email explicitly states the following:

Your application status will change on the decision release date of March 30, 2012. There will be no intermediate status change and your status will remain "Invitation to Interview" until the final decisions are released. Please note, you will not be notified that your interview report has been submitted and you should not contact your interviewer to make sure this has been done. We have a system established which ensures that all reports are turned in on time.

Thanks for the reply. It really helps. Understand the fairness the adcom would like to demonstrate. But as a member from the huge and competitive Chinese pool, it's really stressful even after being invited to an interview. From my understanding, despite the 40-40 rule, the chance of a Chinese applicant is only around 15-20%.

I think as we enter the final week before decisions are released, stress-levels are incredibly high and with that levels of speculation go up as well. I think that it's important that we do our best to keep level heads and repeat the mantra of "what's done is done"...it's all in the adcom's hands now. We all should stop trying to read between the lines of every message that comes from Ankur Kumar and take what's in those emails at face value. If the email says "your status will not change until final decisions have been reached", they aren't throwing in another critical reasoning problem your way and only admitting the people who have figured out their "ruse". It just means exactly that: your status will not change until final decisions have been reached. (just an example...) This also goes for trying to quantify everything about the admissions process. It's pretty clear that there are always exceptions to the rule.

So for the sake of everyone's sanity, let's all limit the amount of speculation we spread. Go do something fun this weekend. Do something special for yourself in the next week. Take your mind off of your apps, because they're out of your hands and there's nothing else you can do at this point. And hopefully, we'll hear some good news come the 30th.

Trying to read the tea leaves is impossible and will drive you nuts. At the two schools I've received decisions, I received interview invites essentially the first day or two they came out and have been waitlisted at both.

When schools say there is nothing behind the order, there is nothing behind the order. It all depends upon when they read your application.
