I just got my invitation to the Welcome Reception on Dec 5th and Columbia Connect I & II on Feb 10th and April 20th.
Any admits planning to attend these? And any info on what to expect at these events?
I would love to attend but I didn't get an invite yet. Am I correct in assuming these invites only go out to people living in NYC? I wish they had similar events on the west coast!

Nope. I'm out in Asia and got the same invite (and luggage tag yo!) via fedex on Tuesday morning. Don't think I'll be there though.. its kind of a long commute
I received the call last night around 8pm EST. I have been admitted into the J-term 2012 program. Life is good!!! I feel very fortunate to have this opportunity.
My advice is to be prepared for your interview. I think that is what solidified my spot in the class.

Wow, you have so strong background, no wonder they give you response so fast. Again, big congratulations and hope to join in you guys in near future.
Not heard back yet - went under review on 12th Sep. Getting a little worried now seeing previous timelines and also the new ones of others who submitted with me (and have got interview calls)

Nope, I'm based in Korea. My basic profile is as below:
GMAT: 710 GPA: 3.5 / 4.0 School: US Top 50 Private WE: 3 years IBD (M&A) EC: Tiny little start-up during undergrad, lead singer/actor for various culture shows, company baseball team, some community service. Other: Born in Korea, raised in Hong Kong.
Got the interview invite last week, it wont happen till later this week though... Can't wait to finally get it over with at this point, i feel prepared!!
And to relate to above, I actually just came back from an MIT visit and they said the same thing about the iPads. The atmosphere was definitely different there then at the other schools, I'll definitelly have to take a couple of more looks at the school before I'm comfortable applying. I'm still hoping Columbia comes through!!! fingers crossed!

I don't know, I liked MIT from what I heard there. A buddy of mine graduated in '06 and he is not a nerd in any way. I also saw a lot of people there that did not give off a nerdy vibe. Even if they did, it wouldn't be an issue with me as long as the group is diverse. What I lack in areas, I look to get from my bschool experience (have I written too many essays now??).
I'm scheduled for an interview this weekend. So far my interviewer has been very accomodating, and we have a friendly tone among us. I will keep you posted.
On a side note, Tuck for instance, has a scholarship deadline. Is there such a thing at Columbia? Or are you automatically evaluated for this?
