Although they say that the application is read thoroughly and the admission process is holistic, it looks to me that among the good candidates, the interview invites first go to ones having higher GMAT. This is not to contest that they don't look at other components. They do. But when I visited the school earlier this year, I spoke with one of the admissions committee staff members, and she told me that they typically suggest students with less than 700 to retake GMAT, if possible, to improve the chances of admission.
Again, not sure how much we could take it at face value, but just shared my thoughts.
Anybody less than 700 GMAT here received an interview invite from Darden?

I have a 650 GMAT and I got my invitation to interview on Nov 1. So I'm not sure they go by only GMAT for early invites.. If so, there is NO reason I should've gotten one early on in the game!

Just finished my interview on campus yesterday. Have to say it was a slightly offbeat experience. I was interviewed by a member of the Ad Com and she was pleasant enough. It was extremely casual and I interviewed in her office sitting on a couch. She asked everything she wanted to know upfront - a little about where I grew up, my family, my undergrad experience and then a bit about my internships, professional experience and why Darden specifically. Was extremely conversational - she took no notes, did not want to see my resume - just wanted to chat. So I told her my story and she interjected with a lot of questions.

You probably think from what you've read so far that it was going well so far and why I said the experience was offbeat in the beginning. Here's why. Talking about your entire life experience in 40 minutes, we definitely covered a lot of breadth, but not depth. I feel if someone was to go ask her if she got a real sense for who I was - I'm not sure she would be able to give them a proper response. The interview was so unstructured that it makes me uncomfortable .. Can anyone relate to what I feel?

Thanks jsundare for sharing your experience and info. So that raises my hope of interview invite...
I interviewed with Duke in EA round (applicant initiated) and it was extremely structured by SY student. But considering the Darden's culture and emphasis (high on fit), I think yours looks very encouraging. Moreover, usually adcom staffs do not take many notes, unlike SY students, who tend to take more notes. Also, since you've interviewed with adcom staff directly, your feedback goes unfiltered straight into the decision process. I think overall you stand a good chance and the natural conversational interview at Darden will go in your favor and not against. My 2 cents...

Seems the end of the road for R1 applicants who have not yet been invited for interview by Darden.

Sometimes I feel that the top 10 should have an agency to filter out candidates they will never ever invite for interview.
Applicants can just get their profile processed and then get a result of which colleges may consider them.

Will save lots of efforts and money of applicants. Do the colleges make some kind of profit out of the application fees as well?

I agree and I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing; perhaps it's just the nature of the Darden interview. I felt that other interviewers gained a better understanding of how I've operated in various challenging scenarios, but didn't get as good of an understanding of who I am. The Darden interviewer, however, got a very good understanding of my story and how/why I'm seeking an MBA at Darden right now. I think they're just different approaches and one is not necessarily better or worse than the other.

I decided that I'm just going to mail Admissions a check for a couple grand with the words "Tuition Deposit 2k12" written in the memo field. If they cash it, I'll know I'm in.

Had my interview today on grounds. Was interviewed by a second year student.

It was really relaxed, conversational and friendly, with the interviewer giving me the go ahead to talk about anything in my life that I thought was important to mention. I spoke for about 30 min, with him interjecting occasionally with clarification/follow up questions. Then we spent another 20 min chatting about Darden and his experience there, with me taking the lead on asking questions.

The whole interview lasted 50 min approx, and I came away feeling really good about Darden. C'ville is a beautiful place, and the people seem really friendly and genuinely happy to be there.

Now the wait begins! Dec 21 seems a long way off. :)

During my interview, the adcom told me that your profile is reviewed separately by a second year student and an adcom member, and both give a recommendation to interview or not. If both say "yes" then you go immediately to interview. If there is disagreement, then it goes to committee to decide. She didn't say anything about what happens when both say "no", but I'd guess it's safe to assume that means you're going into WL or denied. Don't give up hope yet, your app could still be in committee, and they say the blog says that they send out interview invites all throughout December up until the deadline!

Speaks to the Darden culture I guess..

I sent a thank you note to my interviewer as well, and received a reponse a few days after I sent it. I guess they are really busy...I actually emailed both my Darden and Duke interviewers and received both response...guess it isn't a bad thing...!

I sent a thank you note to my interviewer as well, and received a reponse a few days after I sent it. I guess they are really busy...I actually emailed both my Darden and Duke interviewers and received both response...guess it isn't a bad thing...!

I had my interview with an AdCom member in her office. It's a good gesture to send a thank you note afterwards no matter what. Fingers crossed now. 21 more days!

My interviewer replied and said "I hope that our paths cross again."
I think she meant it as a nice friendly greeting, but I thought it sounded a little too much like "I hope you will re-apply next year."

I didn't get a reply from my Cornell interviewer, and in general I really don't think the reply or lack-thereof has any bearing on whether or not any of us will be accepted.
