Ahh, I wish I know a thing called open interview. would someone tell me how to initiate one? What other schools have open interview options? thanks in advance!

Little confused.
I am having my on-campus interview this Saturday. The registration email says "Our ALUMNI interviewers are excited to meet you..."
Won't the on-campus interviewers be adcoms or 2nd yr students? Possible that Fuqua invites alums to Durham to interview applicants on Saturdays?

I interviewed on a Sat during the open interview period and it was with a second year student. Not sure, but they might have alumni in the area helping out.

Unfortunately, the Fuqua open interview season starts in mid-September and ends in mid-October. The window has closed for this application cycle.

Tuck and Kellogg are the only other schools in the top 15 that have this option.

One slight correction is that Kellogg doesnt really have an open interview policy yet they interview about 95% of the applicants. They try to interview you before starting your application review. But besides those schools not sure of any others that offer the option.

Had a great time at Fuqua today! Amazing people (really, really diverse set of backgrounds). Very cool that they had a club fair at lunch. Mock class by Rampini, an Econ PhD out of Chicago, covering a basic primer of hedge funds, alpha, and investigating the truth about hedge fund correlations to the market when things go south. Very engaging professor, really fun.

Interviewed by a 2Y who is lined up with Apple. I asked him if he felt disadvantaged by being east coast in the whole process, and he said Fuqua had the most Apple hires of any business school, and obviously there's a connection with Tim Cook. He leveraged some Fuqua alums on the west coast for internships, and that's a story I heard again and again. 80-90% of emails get returned within a week, which is something schools like Tuck and Darden promote as differentiators -- well that's very much a reality at Fuqua as well. I could really feel that Fuqua is all about the people and the relationships, hopefully things work out for me cause I love the school.

Um, the weather also rocked! Ann Arbor eat your heart out haha :-D

Hey guys, I hope you don't mind me borrowing your thread.

I'm applying for exchange at Duke fall 2012 and I've tried to find the course portal in order to motivate which courses I want to take. I've found this https://www.fuqua.duke.edu/student_resou ... se_listing but it can't be all? A lot of courses are missing there.

I think we'll able to choose from 2nd year MBA electives.

Interviewed in Durham two days ago - also had a great experience. The HSM program really does sound like it's as good as advertised, and Fuqua has a number of other features/programs that are among the best, if not the best, in the world. Their Career Management Center also sound top notch.

Interview was very conversational and lasted about 45 minutes total. I was interviewed by a 2Y - she asked about examples of teamwork and a situation that didn't go well and how I handled it. Couple other questions as well. Fuqua did a nice job of lining up tons of students who could answer questions throughout the day and activities to acquaint you with the program. Hoping for good news Feb 1!

Agreed that the on-campus interview experience was pretty excellent. Was amazed by just how many 1st years signed up to be 'Lounge Hosts' just sitting down and conversing with prospectives throughout the day. (There were a ton of prospectives there this weekend, and probably about 80-100 current 1st and 2nd year students involved in the activities.) Went to the CASE presentation, which gave a lot of insight into how Duke is cultivating the next batch of social entrepreneurs. (It looks like they need some more money, but they are on the right track.)

My interview also was very conversational, with few 'gotcha' questions. The progression was very natural, and new questions just kind of sprang from the answers to previous questions. Stayed for a bit of Fuqua Friday, and was suuuper impressed by just how many people showed up. For a school event, there were easily 600 folks and their families in attendance. The food and drink was also much higher quality than I was expecting! All-in-all very impressed (albeit exhausted) with my experience.

Hi Mackieman, that website is the best place to look for the courses available during each term. Not all of the courses are offered every term. What types of courses are you interested in? Which term are you planning to exchange in? Maybe I can offer some suggestions.

Hey. I've already checked the website. There course listing is here:
https://www.fuqua.duke.edu/student_resou ... se_listing

but if you look at the finance concentration here https://www.fuqua.duke.edu/student_resou ... s/finance/ several courses are missing, like:
FINANCE 453 — Global Asset Allocation & Stock Selection
FINANCE 454 — Financial Engineering
FINANCE 458 — Raising Capital: Financial Instruments, Institutions & Strategy
FINANCE 491 — Quantitative Finance

My preference is for fall of 2012. Basically I need to motivate why, academically, I want to go to Duke. Being a student in finance (MSc) I'm mostly interested in finance courses. What I am looking for is courses with prominent teachers (Breeden, Campbell, and so on) teaching a course I can pick upcoming fall so that I can motivate why I want to go there. I can also squeeze in a course with Ariely in behavioural econ if he is teaching this fall. But it's quite hard since I cant find that information.

Any help with that would be very appreciated.

The Fall 2012 schedule isn't out yet, so those courses may be offered. I think Dan Ariely's course is typically offered during one of the Spring terms. If it's behavior econ that you are interested in, there may be other behaviorial econ course offered during the Fall.

Well, I'm particular interested in behavioural econ at Duke just because its Ariely teaching it.
Thanks for your help.

They do not share any information on how many applicants initiate their interviews during the open interview season as against those who are just invited to interview. Based on the most recent report, 55% of the applicants were interviewed while 26% were accepted. That means 47% of those who were interviewed were accepted.

Obviously, the 47% success rate could be skewed due to those who decided to initiate their interviews. But you could also argue that those who did this could have been the applicants who were either the most qualified or the most eager to go to Fuqua. There's no telling which way the success rate would go, so let's just assume that the success rate for those who were invited is 47%.

About half of the interviewed applicants are admitted.

I heard a 2Y student at Duke say that number is 75% but I could be wrong (rather he could be wrong).
I also tried to find stats online, but I was unsuccessful.

Another thing to keep in mind is that people could have signed up (as opposed to being invited) for an interview during the open weeks, which could skew the statistics significantly.

What this means is that an applicant's application could be below par, and yet they interviewed, possibly boosting their chances (that's why it is important to interview!) or reducing their chances further.
