Hey all -

So for anyone else that might have had the same question I had earlier I figured i would just provide a little update. I called the financial aid office at johnson yesterday and got some more info. Basically, new this year, Cornell has 3 "scholarship weekends" all somewhat related to the Park fellowship. Being invited to a weekend does NOT guarantee you some sort of scholarship, but by very definition of the event - you have a pretty good shot of at least receiving something. The weekend is comprised mainly of interviews and team building events, and at the end of the weekend - the park fellows are announced along with all other scholarships that are given out (the amount they have available is subject to change given yield, attendance, etc.)

It is my impression that at the end of this weekend you'll either be told you're getting some $, $$, $$$, Park Fellow or tough luck and thanks for coming out (maybe they just slip you an envelope?). They told me specifically that I will not be receiving any scholarship info before then. That Seems a little strange to me bc i know people on this board have reported receiving emails with scholarship info, but apparently thats not the case for me. Maybe it's bc I'm a Consortium applicant? Who knows. Does anyone have any more information they could share with regards to how these weekends work?? Anyone have any clue as to what to expect at one of these weekends? How to best prepare, if you can at all?

Simply getting an admit to Johnson was a dream come true and anything on top of that would be extra icing on the cake, so I'm not really stressing it. I'm just trying to figure out as many deets as possible, so that if needed, I can best prepare.

Hope that helps some people out there. Would love to hear others thoughts on this.

Thanks.

hi guys ! I am an international applicant R2. I got on-campus interview invite in Ithaca.
the problem is i am india, and is not feasible for me to get visa and tickets within in 2 weeks to attend interview invite in NY. but i do not want to lose this opportunity.
I have sent a reply requesting them for an online interview.
Do you have any other suggestion ? Do you think i did the right thing ?
thanks guys

I think you are fine. If you do not hear back in a few days, I would call them as a follow-up. Good Luck!

I too was invited to the Scholarship weekend, but didn't get any scholarship info outside of the invite (I'm not Consortium, just plain old R1) . When I was at Johnson in the fall, I was talking with someone in Admissions and asked about how the weekends work. I was told basically the same thing as in your post: team exercises, corporate retreat, trust fall stuff. Kind of odd really, a teamwork weekend where you are competing against your teammates for scholarship money, which will be doled out according to who is teamiest, I guess? The one thing that does differ from your post was that she said Scholarship weekend people are their very most competitive applicants (read: admits they really want to woo), "so even if they don't end up with the Park fellowship, their award package is usually pretty generous." In other words, I don't think Johnson would ask you to hoof it out to Ithaca in February to partake in a weekend like this and then leave empty-handed. That's hardly a smart thing to do to your "most competitive" admits, considering how closely schools watch their yields. I think that if you go you will get a scholarship of some kind, it's just a question of how much.

I was also invited to the weekend, and I somewhat agree (and hope) that it only makes sense to invite people if they were to get some kind of a scholarship. I could be wrong though, and just grateful to have made the invite list.

Did you get a package of info for the weekend via email, like an agenda and confirmation of attendance form? I received one and have filled it out. From what I gathered there were still a lot of questions about it and no one had brought up the fact they received an info package on it. Wondered if everyone who was invited got one.

For what it's worth, I was offered $20k (total over two years) and wasn't invited to this weekend.
So, I'd have a real hard time seeing any of the invites get less than 20k. Unless they just really don't want me back on campus lol.

regarding the scholarship and R1 admits, I received an email a couple weeks ago saying that I have been put on the waitlist for the schorlarship. Does every R1 admit who has not been invited to the weekend or awarded some sort of $ with the admission receive this schorlarship waitlist email?

Congrats! And good luck! If I may ask, when did you submit your app and then did it go to 'under review'?

Any International R2 applicants got an interview invite yet? I am wondering how will the ad-com manage all the interviews with less than 5 weeks for the decision deadline? Or is it a ding for those of us who haven't heard back yet.
