Premise - Legislators claim that the public finds many current movies so violent as to be morally offensive.

Counter Premise - In a survey conducted by a movie industry guild, only 17 percent of respondents thought that movies are overly violent, and only 3 percent found any recent movie morally offensive.

Fact Supporting Counter Premise - These low percentages are telling, because the respondents see far more current movies than does the average moviegoer.

Conclusion - Legislators have misrepresented public opinion.

Observe the Premise and Fact supporting the counter premise carefully. You will notice that Legislators claimed that public (average moviegoer) finds current movies morally offensive. While the Author has attempted to refute this claim by providing the opinion of respondents who see far more movies than average moviegoer.

That means Author has presented the sample of moviegoers different than the sample presented by Legislators. And that is the flaw in the Argument.

'Random sampling of movies' means that the sample of movies was not biased.

The sample of movies would be biased if the person watches only a certain type of movies. Say a person watches only animated kids movies. Would his opinion on the level of violence in today's cinema be useful? No. Since he doesn't watch all types of movies, he wouldn't know the level of violence. Perhaps many other types of movies are very violent. His sample of movies would be biased toward the non-violent ones since he watches only kids movies.

Coming back to the question, our bigger problem is that the sample of people surveyed itself is biased. They are avid movie watchers - not representative of the average movie goer.
