I didn't upload any optional essay. Reading from this forum and taking into account what admissions wrote on its blog, it seems it's quite important.
Bad error I guess but I thought to have said all about me in the other two essays.
I won't give up till the end, but it seems I'm not in a good position for an interview invite.

Ouch, to be clear, I spoke to admissions and it is truly optional. don't make it a big deal. if anything, optional can hurt you if they see something they don't like.

Thank you mate. Your words make me feel a bit better.
Then..fingers crossed for all of us that submitted the application.
I can swear that MIT didn't send out these many marketing emails in R1 application time. Seems they are working hard to up the number of applications in R2.
Nah. I don't think so. It's only coincidence that R2 and their LGO + Finance fairs coincided. Now, anyone would like to make their fairs happening and crowded. Ryt?

Maybe because of the harder application this year .. fewer applicants made it in time .. just speculating

just out of curiosity, when you say harder application..is that based on your personal experience or did you read this from adcom blog or something?
Mostly personal and few other comments, nothing from the adcom
1. The essay prompts were unique. 2. The reccomendation questions - sine MIT was among the few schools (act only other school I know is Isb) that didn't move to the universal/ standard prompts, it was a bit challenging to ask the recommenders to write completely different recs.
MIT have had the same kind of recommendation questions over the past few years. While this year's "write your own recommendation" essay question is arguably harder than last year's "describe a time when you pushed yourself out of your comfort zone", I do not believe that it was so hard that it deterred many applicants away from this great school.
I'm focused on that 3 pm time slot. For no particular reason, I'm really expecting things to happen around then. On the other hand, the admissions blog hasn't seemed to have changed any. I guess I'll just continue to wear out my phone's battery.
the last post on the MIT blog related to RD1 said that there would be a post about interviewing prior to invites coming out.....either that's not happening or we're waiting anxiously way too early
