i'm currently in that situation as well re: scholarship from 6th. That's kind of not cool of Darden. I quite literally could not take time off work right now...so if i was in that situation, i'd probably have to forfeit. And it's not like you're a late applicant. You submitted since January! Plus, school is expensive enough, who wants to cough up $500 on such short notice.

It really does put you in a bad position. Schools that require an on-campus interview should have set interview notification days and a wide window to come and interview. I really like UMIch's system: you know if you will be interviewed within 2 weeks of applying, and have a wide window and variety of ways to interview. Darden is basically: We might want to interview you at any time over the next three months, so be prepared to drop everything and come to Charlottesville. I am lucky in that I work overseas, so I got a skype interview. I can understand why Darden wants people to fly out. It's expensive, but guarantees commitment. What Darden does have going for it though is that they are ~10k cheaper than every peer program, and dole out lots of aid, so you will get your money back in a sense. PS. Also feedback on my recent Darden interview: the Darden folk are very friendly and was my best interview of any school.

I think some schools are more worried than others about accepting students who end up enrolling somewhere else. I think there are a lot of things in place to test who really wants to attend the school, and this could have to do with something like that...

I was in the same situation. I was notified last week and was told to come the following day or the next day but I am a west coast applicant as well which was not possible (even if I had the money). I got the same information of domestic applicants have to come on campus so I am interviewing on Monday. They "strongly encouraged" me to come this week but they didn't mention anything about the scholarship to me. I also stressed that I have spent a lot of time on the Darden campus but that wasn't enough for a skype interview. It is really tough financially but going the 9th versus the 2nd was a difference in $800. I really couldn't justify it with all the other travel I have done for interviews. I don't know where that puts me with the Consortium scholarship but I hope I made the right decision. Rosemariecourt-- did you rank them pretty high? I'm wondering if that's why they mentioned the scholarship to you but not me. I was told I could go in up to March 25th to interview but earlier is better. If I were to go in late they warned that I could be notified later than the posted 3/25 date.

The inconsistencies are odd. I was allowed to Skype with Darden. I think you guys are in better shape going on campus though. I just couldn't make it work.
