Machine A can make 350 widgets in 1 hour, and machine B can make 250 widgets in 1 hour. If both machines work together, how much time will it take them to make a total of 1000 widgets?

A. 1 hour and 20 minutes
B. 1 hour and 24 minutes
C. 1 hour and 30 minutes
D. 1 hour and 36 minutes
E. 1 hour and 40 minutes

Kudos for a correct solution.

(350+250)t=1000
600t=1000
t=5/3
t=1 hour and 40 minutes

Rate of Machine A = \(\frac{350}{60}\) widgets per minute

Rate of Machine B = \(\frac{250}{60}\) widgets per minute

Combined rate = 10 widgets per minute

Time required for 1000 widgets \(= \frac{1000}{10} = 100\) minutes

Answer = E

350w per hour + 250w per hour = 600w per hour
600w per hour = 100w per 10 minutes
1000w - 600w = 400w

100w = 10m
400w = 40m

1h + 40m = 1 hour, 40 minutes.

A=350/60 per minute
=70/12

B=250/60 per minute
=50/12

A & B rate of both machine
70/12+50/12
=120/12
=10

So, A & B both per minute rate 10 units
so, 1000/10
=100 minutes
So, 1 hours 40 minutes

Total work needed to be done = 1,000 widgets
A can produce = 350 widgets in 1 hr
B can produce = 250 widgets in 1 hr

Together, how long to produce 1,000 widgets ? Shortcut calculation 1000/(250+350) = 10/6 Hrs

Kudos for a correct solution.

Efficiency of Machine A = 350
Efficiency of Machine B = 250

Combined Efficiency of Machine A & B = 600

Time required to produce 1000 widgets is 1000/600 = 10/6 Hours ,

Or, 5/3 Hours = 1 hour and 40 minutes Answer must be (E)
