I took the GMAT today and had sort of a strange result. Now I am trying to decide whether or not to take it again. I am applying to part-time programs at lower-tier schools (UIC Liautaud, DePaul Kellstadt, Loyola Quinlan). I have solid work experience, two very strong recommendations from senior executives at my company, and will write a strong essay. My GPA, however, is less-than stellar (see below). Breakdown of my GMAT score is below as well. I am concerned about the discrepancy between the Quant and Verbal. While I think the overall score will be enough to get me in (average at my target schools for full-time programs around 580, I imagine it's lower for part-time, GPA average around 3.0), I am worried that the low quant score will be a deterrant.
I do think, with a few more weeks of studying, I would be able to raise the quant score closer to 32 or so. I would obviously prefer not to retake the GMAT, but am looking for candid feedback on whether it is necessary. Thank you!

Total: 590 (56th percentile)
Quant: 28 (18th percentile)
Verbal: 42 (96th percentile)
IR: 5
Expecting a 6 on the AWA
Work experience:
Currently manage internal communications for the largest manufacturer of a particular industrial product
Seven years of experience in communications roles across a variety of industries – financial services, manufacturing, nonprofit, agency
Have managed teams in two of my roles (two direct reports in each role)
International business experience
High degree of visibility consulting leadership
All roles have been communications roles, but resume shows overlap into other areas of business
Undergrad:
Majored in Mass Communications at mid-tier university
Internships: University news office, reporting internship at Forbes
GPA: 2.7 Note: I know this is low. I started out strong, but had a year when I really should not have been in school due to personal issues and failed a number of classes. This continued into the next year. My grades did improve in my final year, but overall my GPA was not what it should have been or could have been. I immediately began making up for it through my work experience, which I believe has demonstrated my true ability, work ethic and ambition.

If you believe a few more weeks of study could get you a better score, then seriously consider retaking the GMAT. It would certainly help your chances of admissions and may even affect scholarship chances. Thus, this could be a good investment to make.

I would give it another shot. Schools will always accept the highest so there's no harm in trying again. While your overall score is good for those schools, your GPA is low and you're applying from a non-quantitative function, so I think if you can squeeze out a few more points on Quant that would help a lot! Plan to write the Optional Essay about your low GPA and those circumstances too. Good luck!
