You must be the change you wish to see in the world.

What does the speaker of the above sentence mean to imply?

A. People will not change until you do.
B. If you set an example, others will follow.
C. For making a difference in others, make a difference in yourself first.
D. Every reform starts at home.
E. You must behave with others the way you want them to behave with you.

Change can be inferred as a difference , and
comparing you and the world , can be done with yourself and then others.

The correct ans choice is a restatement here. ( as in inference Q, cut copy paste is not allowed, but a restatement is )

Best option would be C .

The argument says that if you want to see a big change at world stage, you be that change first.
In other words, it says that as you change, others will follow you and hence, you'll be able to see the change at world stage.
Hence B!

Eagerly waiting for Bunuel's reply on this one. Although I believe that the question is highly subjective depending upon the point of view & context.

B. If you set an example, others will follow.
C. For making a difference in others, make a difference in yourself first.
D. Every reform starts at home.
E. You must behave with others the way you want them to behave with you.

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION:

The speaker is not talking about reforms. Reforms are of many types and thus we can not consider D as a suitable answer option. The speaker is also not talking about the behaviour of people towards us. He is just talking about the changes required in the world regarding any aspect and not in particular their behaviour. Hence we reject E. Out of the remaining three options we can say that the speaker means to imply B. He tells the listener that if he wishes to change the world he must set an example by changing himself and people will follow his example. B is a step ahead of C. And A is not what the speaker means to convey. Hence we consider B as the best answer option.

If this is an "inference/must be true" question, doesn't B go too far by stating "others will follow". IMO the statement just says "if you wish to see a change, you need to change yourself first". The statement says nothing whether others will follow. That's a leap generally not favoured in must be true questions.

I agree with Urvashi. Hope the moderator will explain this.

I went with option C.
If one wants to bring change in this world, then he has to change himself first.

Option B is going too far.

Except A all other options are debatable.
These question types are really weird. Although they are good for practice I don't feel they'll be tested on GMAT.

Not a very good logical question and I would refrain from attempting it
