Hi Experts,

Doesn't this question say two MORE times? So effectively, he is covering it thrice. So answer should be 18?

Hi Experts,

The question initially says "Brenda walked a 12-mile scenic loop in 3 hours." It means she has already covered it once and then she reduced her speed. Now it is asking what time she will take to cover the loop two times, with the reduced speed.

[12][/6] = [24][/T]

T = 12

According to the question, 1st loop takes 3 hours generally, but to make the ratio stable, 1st loop will take double time, so it is 6 hours

Distance: 12 miles

Time: 3 hours

Speed: \(\frac{12 }{ 3}\) = 4 miles per hour

Speed reduced to half: \(\frac{4 }{ 2}\) = 2 miles per hour

Distance two times: 12 + 12 = 24

Speed: \(\frac{24 }{ 2}\) = 12 miles per hour

Answer C

Brenda walked a 12-mile scenic loop in 3 hours. If she then reduced her walking speed by half, how many hours would it take Brenda to walk the same scenic loop two more times?

(A) 6
(B) 8
(C) 12
(D) 18
(E) 24

current speed of Brenda ; 12/3 ; 4 mph
half the speed 2mph
time it takes to make 2 more rounds
12*2/2 ; 12 hrs
option C

I never know which unit to use T in for the DRT formula, minutes, hours, a fraction of the two and this confusion inevitably trips me up. Please help.
