Profile evaluation for MIM application 2020

Question

I am a mechanical engineering graduate from India, graduated from a NIT (ranked within Top 50 colleges) with 9.2 Cgpa (*ranked: 5/140),GMAT 680, IELTS 7.5, 95% in 12th(rank 1/500) & 94% in 10th (rank 1/120)
Working at Bajaj Auto with 1 year of work experience now in a techno-management profile. Will have a number of projects related to work, 2 college internships,research project and led college team in national BAJA in 2017 & 2018.

Volunteered in NGO for tree plantation and climate change activities, animal care activities and moderate extra curricular in arts and music.

Which universities/ colleges should i target for Masters in Management Program?

Generally speaking the average GMAT at most top schools is around 690-700 so although you're a bit on the low end with a 680 you have a good shot, especially given your other stats and your internships. I'd consider HEC Paris, IE, ESSEC, LBS and ESADE. Good luck to you!

I am a Automobile engineering graduate from India, graduated from a MUJ (not ranked within Top 50 colleges) with 7.6 Cgpa; GMAT 650, IELTS 7.5.
Working as a fresh partner in my family business since almost year now in a techno-management profile. Two college internships (Piaggio , Mahindra Tractors), led college team in national Mega-ATV championship, led SAE-INDIA Club in University, Convened a national Convention, organised 3 automobile rallies as a leader, etc.

Did some theatre in 1st year of college, took part in an MUN.

Which universities/ colleges should i target for Masters in Management Program?

pulkitbansal3, your family business experience will help set your application apart, but honestly it's going to be tough to get into a MiM program with a 650, especially when your GPA is already on the low end. Ideally you want to score at least a 700 and the higher the better to help outweigh that GPA. It's particularly tough when you are an Indian male (assuming that is the case for you), since it's a population that tends to have very high GMAT scores. Is there any possibility of improving your score?

Yes, i can give another attempt. My AWA is also low this time, i want to give another shot for sure. Current score is Q45, looking to get a Q47 to cross the 700 mark. (V35)

Hello,

I am an electronics engineering graduate from University of Mumbai with a CGPA of 7.68. I am currently working in an MNC and have 1.5 years of work experience.
10 th - 9.6 CGPA (CBSE)
12 th - 80% (CBSE)

One college internship for 2 months at a startup as an operations Intern. Was an active member of the college council and played for the college team.
Two mini projects and one final year project with Larsen and Toubro.
Attended Dale Carnegie workshops while in college.

Certification - CSM certified.

I am yet to give GMAT or IELTS

Do I have a shot at good universities ? Targeting for MiM

Thanks for reaching out! Your GPA is a bit on the low end so a top GMAT score (700+) will be critical. You have some interesting work experience but depending on the school you may have a bit too much for a MiM program. Some of them only want candidates with one year or less. Check out the requirements for each school to be sure. That said, most top MBA programs want candidates with 3-5 years of experience upon matriculation so worst case if you don't get into an MiM this year you could reapply to b-school next year.

Thank you for you reply. I am planning to apply for fall 2020. I am more inclined towards MBA. However, my work experience is less since many schools have 3-5 work ex. criteria as you mentioned which is why I opted for MiM.

Can you suggest me a few schools that will accept me for an MBA program. I will have approx. 2.4 years of work experience by then.

It would be a bit tough to get into an MBA program with only 2.4 years of experience, which is why I actually meant you could consider if next year if you don't get into an MiM this year. That would also give you a year to get some more accomplishments under your belt & possibly even have time to nail a higher GMAT score. You're a bit in an awkward spot with your current years of work experience since you're over the typical amount for a MiM but about a year away from having enough for b-school. It's worth a shot for MiM programs this year & if you don't get in you could apply to b-schools next year. That would be my advice!

You're absolutely right..I was thinking on similar lines too.

But isn't it too late to apply this year for an MiM since I don't have a GMAT and IELTS in hand yet?

Also, I guess very few universities have spring intake.

mh95, it all depends on how quickly you can get a strong score on the GMAT!

That said, honestly your time is probably best spent doing everything you can to strengthen your candidacy in this next year so you can just apply to b-school. I think you've got a solid shot at it, although your chances will be best schools on the lower end of that top 15 range. Your GPA is on the lower end, and while your GMAT is solid, a higher score (~740) would help to outweigh that GPA & improve your chances. You are coming from a very tough demographic when it comes to MiM programs and it's one that tends to have very high GMAT scores. That said you definitely have a shot at it even with the 720! But if you feel like you've got it in you to raise that score without compromising your ability to do your best on the other parts of your application I'd consider retaking the test!

Hi everyone.
I am applying for 2020 sept intake for European top 10 B-schools ( ESSEC, EDHEC, ESCP ).
I have a decent profile with 2 internships (1 in a startup and 1 in EY). I completed my B.tech in CSE from a reputed college in delhi with 76% overall. I actively take part in sports and extra curricular activities. I have 3-4 months of NGO work experience as well. 
But I lack behind in my GRE score, which is 302 (V143 Q159). I did not get much time to prepare and right now I am working so I have only weekends for me. I am planning to apply mostly in first rounds.
My job profile is product analyst in a communication automation company.

Please suggest which MIM colleges I can target with this profile ? What are my chances in EDHEC, ESSEC and ESCP ?

My advice would be to wait until the 2nd round so you have time to improve your score and/or to give the GMAT a shot to see if you can land a better score there. Generally speaking you want to hit a 700 GMAT or an equivalent score on the GRE in order to be competitive at these schools, so better to take a little more time to be sure your score is as close to that as possible! If you are only working on your apps on the weekends it also sounds like there's some risk you'll feel rushed on your essays if you try to hit R1. You can still get started on your essays now but just give yourself more time to do you best work in time for those R2 deadlines.

Hey guys, so I gave my GMAT for the 3rd time and got a 650(48Q 31V) my verbal score was way off, I was scoring between 37-40 in my mocks in verbal. But as it was my 3rd time I don't feel liken giving the exam again but I know there is a slight chance I may have to. Can you guys help me with your suggestions as to what I should do and do you guys think I can manage to get an admit in the listed colleges with my current score and profile.
The business schools I am targeting are ross, McDonough, McCombs, Questrom, Duke, Owen, Northwestern for MS IN MANAGEMENT OR MS IN MARKETING COURSES. 
A little about myself:
- I am 21 year old male applicant and have completed my bachelors in management studies(BMS) from Narsee Monjee college of commerce and economics.
-My CGPA 9.4/10
-Work in my family business with my dad and handle clients
- Had started my own online retail store and operated it for a year, completed around 100 orders and made profits (shut is laters because I had alot going on with gmat and college etc so couldn't handle the stress of operating the business at that time.
- Have taken part and managed my college's festival 
-Have taken part in a lot of extracurriculars like athletics, fashion shows etc since my school time.
- Have worked with an ngo and done volunteer work of teaching underprivileged kids.
- I am also planning to get a full time job soon once I figure out the applications for these colleges.

I think it would be a good idea to give the exam another shot. If you can even score a 680 that would help & a 700 would be ideal. That said, I think you still have a shot at these schools given your experience, and I would name the family business as your post-grad goal. The adcom loves family business applicants -- when you come in with that experience you've often had the chance to do things that most people your age have not had access to. And when you name the family business as your post-grad goal they know 1) you've got a guaranteed job, which is good for their employment stats and 2) you're likely to go on to have big impact (since like I said, when it's a family business you often get access to much greater amounts of responsibility much sooner than you would in a regular job at your age) -- and they want alumni who are going to go on to have big impact.

Normally it would be quite tough to get into most of these schools with a 650 but I think if you play the "family business" card right you have a shot at it!
