Profile Evaluation 2027 Intake
Hi everyone,
I would really appreciate some honest advice on my profile and application strategy for the
2027 intake, particularly on whether I should continue targeting top Masters in Finance or broaden my applications towards MiMs.
Undergraduate: ESCP Business School Bachelor in Management graduated 2026
GPA: 3.7/4.0 (~15.4/20, around top quartile overall)
GMAT: 575
This is currently one of my main concerns.
I scored
575 on the GMAT Focus after several months of preparation. My preparation was somewhat inconsistent because of university/internships, although there were also periods where I studied intensively every day. Poor time management is also responsible for many lost points.
Given the amount of time already invested and the level of the schools I am targeting, I am questioning whether continuing with the GMAT makes sense or whether I should
switch to the GRE and see if the format suits me better.
I would particularly appreciate opinions on:
- How damaging is a 575 for my target MiFs/MiMs given the rest of my academic record?
- What GMAT score would make my profile genuinely competitive?
- Would switching to GRE make sense at this stage?
- What GRE score should I target for LBS/LSE/INSEAD-level programmes?
Career Goal
My target is
Investment Banking / Transaction Services, ideally in London or another major European financial centre, potentially moving towards PE longer term.
What happened with my 2026 applications :
I initially planned to apply to around 6–7 programmes top finance programs (LBS, LSE, HEC...) unfortunately, the application cycle went very badly from an execution standpoint.
The biggest issues were not feeling ready for gmat and delaying until near final round deadline, and
academic references. Several programmes required two academic referees. Although professors initially agreed to support me, actually obtaining the recommendations before the deadlines became extremely difficult.
In the end,
LBS MFA was the only application I managed to submit completely. I applied relatively late in the cycle and did not even receive a rejection email.
So I don't think my 2026 results really tell me whether my profile was competitive for the broader school list, since most applications were never submitted.
Main question: MiF or MiM for 2027?
This experience has made me reconsider whether I should apply almost exclusively to specialised Finance Masters again.
For 2027, I am considering LBS MiM, HEC MiM, INSEAD MiM but still apply for my ideal program being LSE MSc Finance.
I would really appreciate opinions on the following:
- Does my overall profile look more competitive for top MiMs or top MiFs?
- Does my relatively broad profile (broad international exposure, speak fluently 4 languages, intenrship experience, extracurricular leadership) fit MiM admissions better than highly specialised MiF admissions?
- Are top MiMs actually less competitive for my profile, or would I simply be replacing MiFs with equally competitive programs?
- How significant is my 575 GMAT score as a weakness? Should improving it be my absolute priority before applying?
- Given several months of GMAT preparation already, would you continue with GMAT or test the GRE instead?
For 2027 I intend to apply
much earlier, try my best to find and secure my referees well in advance, and avoid repeating the execution problems of my previous cycle.
Any candid feedback is welcome, I am aware that my target programs may be too high but I feel like in today's market only top schools with distinguished network can make me stand up among other profiles.
