Hi fellas,

Please help me with a brief evaluation of my profile.

Academics:
University of California, Riverside majored in Business Economics. Graduated with a GPA of 3.48/4.00 (took numerous accounting and finance courses along with three econometrics courses). No quant background (preparing to self-learn Python after taking my next GMAT);
CFA Level 1 and sitting for Level 2;
GMAT Focus: 660.

Internship:
BPO at Roedl & Partner (Germany law/consulting/accounting firm);
Investment department at Ocean-Sino Capital (based in China, investment banking with a mix of real estate);
Business development at Swire Properties;
Valuation at JLL.

Extracurriculars:
Absolutely no extracurriculars. Only thing that can be mentioned is winning a second place in a nationwide piano competition back in highschool, which is quite irrelevant in the case of applying for MFin.

Target Schools:
Emory, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, Washington University in St. Louis, Boston College/University, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Carnegie Mellon University (Tepper), University of Texas Austin (McCombs), NYU.

If I don't stand a solid chance targeting the above universities, any recommendations of universities that suit my level will be greatly appreciated!

Hi Everyone!

I have a bit of a unique profile, and I would appreciate your feedback.

Things to note:


  • Graduated one year late due to taking a year off after COVID.
  • Average GPA: 3.3 to 3.5 (depending on the scale used).
  • I speak five languages at a business level (or higher) and am currently studying two more (~A1/A2 currently).
  • Served as Secretary of an international student association at my university for one year.
  • Worked during my BSc.
During and after my studies, I have consistently worked:


  • Approximately three years (during my bachelor's) as an Executive Assistant to the European MD of a small VC group (~70Mln Aum). This MD later started his own startup, where I became the Digital Marketing Manager for ~1 year.
  • One year after graduation, I worked at a boutique Audit & Accounting firm in Hong Kong for six months full-time, where I developed a passion for finance.
  • Currently working in a Corporate Services Firm based in Hong Kong.
Currently, I am pursuing a one-year MSc in International Management at a top 30 institution and would like to pursue an MFin to achieve my career goals.

Hi all,

I am a recent graduate at the University of St Andrews studying Business Management. I graduated with a 16/20 (a high 2:1 (16.5 is first class)) GPA. I have had 4 internships, one at a fast-growing fintech startup as a growth and operations intern, two at boutique equity funds as an equity research intern and one at a major Chinese bank rotating between different teams (all in HK). I plan to take the GMAT in mid October/early November (targeting a 645 score which is equivalent to a 700 with the new GMAT format) and apply for round 2 at both LBS and LSE.

From what I have read, LBS places more emphasis on work experience and potentially GMAT whilst LSE places more emphasis on your undergraduate grades. Based on my profile and my target GMAT score, what do you guys reckon my chances of getting into either program is?

p.s. if there are suggestions for other graduate schools that fits my profile better, feel free to comment.

­Hello,

I was hoping to get my profile reviewed on my chances of getting into a masters of finance program and any areas of improvment or general thoughts.

I am a 26 year old Canadian male with italian heritage. I went to the university of Calgary where I studied mechancial engineering and graduated with a 3.0/4.0 GPA. I know this is on the lower end but my grades really picked up towards the end of my university stint where I had 3.7/4.0 in my last 60 credits or so. During school I was also a part of 2 teams - one in engineering where a group of students came together to build a off road vechicle for use in competition, I designed and tested the transmission system. The other, I was part of an investing club in univeristy where we would select a company to value and then pitch to the rest of the members to be added to our student fund. I was the team lead for the financials sector.

I just wrote the GMAT focus and scored a 615 which is something I may look into taking again to try and increase the score.

Most of my professional work experience is engineering related. I did a 4 month internship at a well servicing company called Precision Drilling, my next intership was at Cenovus energy as a production engineer for 16 months. I now currectly work with a company called Spartan Controls in an inside sales role selling oil and gas equipment to our energy clients - I have been here for 1 year and 3 months.

I have also completed the first 2 CFA exams first try and above the 90 percentile for both of them.

In univeristy I started to grow an interest in finance and have wanted to transition to a career in the field and I feel like this is the best move for me currently. I am interested in a carrer in assest management perhaps as a portoflio manager.

Some programs I have considered are as follows in no particular order; however I would love the opportunity to work in the states:

­Hi Everyone! Looking for a profile evaluation please. Thanks in advance:

Background/Nationality: Pakistan, Age 27

Education: Undergrad - BSc Accounting & Finance, GPA:3.3/4, Lahore University of Management Sciences (one of the top schools in my country)

Plus, I am a CFA Charter holder as of last year.

Extracurriculars: Played Football (Soccer) through out youth levels and at university. Vice Captain of University Team.

GMAT: Not given yet. What would be a good target score considering the schools/programs I am aiming for?

Work Experience:

Big 4 Audit - Internship during undergrad
Pakistan Credit Rating Agency (PACRA) - started as a Credit Analyst, then promoted to Research Analyst (2 years)
Solon Capital - Private Equity Analyst (2 years) Solon is a PE Firm with portfolio based in West Africa that focuses mostly on impact investing in areas of education and climate.

Context: I am aiming for a MFin program in Canada (Schulich, Mcgill, Beedie, Smith etc). and hoping to continue a career in finance (investment banking, private equity etc)

I would appreciate if anyone could answer the following:

1) Is MFin the right path considering my profile and that I want to remain in Finance post Masters? Or should I be considering an MBA? Are there other MFin programs in Canada that might be a better fit?
2) Do I stand a chance in getting accepted to my target programs?
3) What would be good GMAT score for my target programs considering my overall profile?­

Hi Everyone!

I have a bit of a unique profile, and I would appreciate your feedback.

-24 years old, Italian
-GMAT Percentile: 90% (GMAT Focus Score: 655)

-Bachelor’s Degree: 88/110 (non-target school) GPA 3.0
-Master’s Degree: 28.5/30 (110/110, in progress, non-target school) GPA 4.0

-6 months at a low-market M&A boutique
-6 months in structured finance at an Mega Fund spin-off
-3 years of trading (during the bachelor) in Statistical Arbitrage (short-term trading based on quantitative models) and Value Investing (long-term stock picking based on intrinsic valuation) with a portfolio that achieved a 13.46% return and a Sharpe Ratio of 1.25
This last section about trading isn’t a flex, but rather to say that for three years I worked every day on something profitable that gave me a bit of experience not comparable to experience in a company, but it still allowed me to approach finance in a different way. Also it explain my low performance in bachelor degree

IELTS Score: 7.5

-2 years of involvement in a student association
-M&A Association Activities: 20+ in business valuations with DCF and 10+ in LBO

Hi there,
I recently finished my undergrad in engineering with degree in Information Technology from Tier one institute in India and am now looking at Mfin and Quant Finance programs. I have a few programs that interest me, but not sure about my chances with any of them, so any comments, ideas and recommendations will help.

Undergrad: really low (6.07/10 on Indian scale) BTech in Information Tecnology from prestigious Indian engineering university

Plan is to get into to finance roles after graduation (most likely in Europe, Asia(like Singapore, Hong Kong) but possibly in the US)

Hello everyone,

I am in my final BSc year at Bocconi studying Economics and Social Sciences. I am planning to apply to a few top MFin programs and would appreciate an evaluation of my chances, and any recommendations and advice.

Profile:

Undergrad: Bocconi, 27/30 GPA - roughly speaking, 3.6-3.7/4 in US terms. Expected final grade 108/110. Going on exchange to Singapore for my final semester of BSc.
GMAT: 675 Focus (i.e. 730 classic - how accurate is this?), percentiles: QR: 88th, VR: 85th, DI: 96th.
Interned at a private equity firm over the summer and a member of the leading finance society at Bocconi.
Recommendation letters: one academic from applied math professor, another from limited partner - my recent employer.

What do you think? Should I retake the GMAT to beef up my profile? I think I can improve my Verbal part, as I scored lower than on the mocks. Taking MFin to eventually enter investment banking/private equity early in my career.

Hi guys, I hope you can help me.

Age: 24

Nationality: Spanish

Undergrad: Business degree at Spanish non-target university. GPA is 6,94/10, which is arround 3.28 (not sure this conversion is correct). One year exchange at a public target german university.

GMAT: I haven't taken it yet, hopefully is arround 700

Work experience: I have been accepted in the audit team of a big4. I'll have 1-2 years of experience by the time the master starts.

Extracurriculars: None, but I can work on that if necessary.

Complementary education: I'm probably going to do CFA level 1 exam, especially if it gives me a competitive edge in the admission process.

Goals: Aiming for a top 15 MsC in Finance, especially any english target school (I know my chances are extremely tiny), HEC, Bocconi, IE or ESADE.

Hi, I would like to have your opinion about my chances to get in: Vanderbilt MSF, Imperial MSF, LBS MFA and other top master programs that waive GMAT / GRE requirements.

Indian, Male, 22 years old

Undergrad uni: Graduated in 2024 from a non-target US university (full merit scholarship)

GPA: 4.0

Work Experience - Currently work as an investment banking analyst in New York City at a bank that has presence all over the world (Canada, Europe, Asia, HQ - NYC). Previously interned at the same bank last summer, worked as undergraduate research assistant in college, have other other internships both in US and India.

Extracurricular Experience - Senior honorary, leadership positions in organizations, global ambassadors, etc

Coursework - Plenty of quant classes, also took 8 credits worth of python in college

Unable to take the GRE/GMAT as my job is quite demanding (70+ hours per week). Willing to write an optional essay explaining this.

    just finished my bachelor's from a well known UK based uni, graduated with a high 2:1 honors degree (Bachelors in Business Administration (Finance)). US GPA- 3.2 I have a pretty decent academic background, always getting 90+ scores in school (I know dosen't matter now, but wanted to put it out there)

Internships - growth stage PE fund, Big 4 audit

Co-curricular - CFA YWI participant (secured an HSBC internship) , National level case comps winner, President of college finance club, Director at Enactus

Community service- Organised a 3-month financial literacy drive NGOs.

Hosted literacy classes at high-school level to educate underprivileged children free of cost.

Work ex - interest rate trader for 9 months, currently HSBC (back-office)

Hi, I am a current final year undergrad in Rotterdam School of Management.

My GPA is 8.2/10 (4.0/4.0 equivalent, UK 1st class equivalent, expected to maintain this score until and after graduation), GMAT focus edition 735 (Q86, V89, DI84).

Did 3 finance internships in different Chinese banks (financial advisory, forex trade, equity research), one finance part-time working student in a big Chinese infrastructure company, one consulting related internship in a large industrial US company in NL.

I served as treasurer and player at my university's football society (broke my skull at a game, that also justifies my relatively not-so-high GPA, had my president to write me a reference to account for this).

I spent one year in a top 10 Chinese university before coming to RSM (because RSM requires non-international-high-schooler to have one semester's transcript at uni before applying to them), got 3.6/4.0 (not very high because once I reached minimum requirement of RSM I stopped trying so hard, I do not know whether this will have a negative impact), founded a Model United Nation when I was there.

Could you evaluate my odds of being admitted by Oxford MFE, Msc Finance at LSE and Imperial College and LBS MFA?

Your exceptional GMAT score, strong GPA (at Rotterdam), as well as decent extra-curricular activities and internships put you in a very strong position provided you are able to weave everything together in a well-crafted narrative. Needless to say, the goals need to sync well.

If you put in a compelling set of essays, you have a very strong chance.

Finance programs will expect you to have a strong quant score; besides, the only way to really offset your low GPA is by working on your GMAT score (especially considering the league of schools you are targeting).

Work Experience: 2 Month Software Engineering Internship in an unknown cyber security company, 2 Month Internship at mid-tier Financial Services Company.
