incoming HBS here - will echo that stats are not the end all be all. there are people in my class that have sub-3.0 GPA and sub 700 GMAT. of course, these people have spectacular work experiences and are the exception rather than the rule, but I find that candidates seem to fixate on those 2 stats and expect better/worse chances, when more effort should have been placed into the essay and crafting the overall narrative
It depends on nationality as well.
For two nationalities that I don't even need to speak the names of, the GMAT score serves as a massive cutoff like factor.
Yes, it's holistic beyond those statistics! Though the mean, median, average, range and Standard deviation need to be accounted for. Lying to the right of the peak when from over-represented, left of the peak when underrepresented and centre when neither helps you assess where you fit it.
I was on a call with an employer recently who just said, "we're looking for talent, the HBS brand may help those candidates but it's surely not helping our organization as we don't work in client focused roles. We need talent and fit". (Although 10% of their incoming workforce - **self assessed rough estimate** - is from HBS's over-represented pool).
If I were from an over-represented pool with no celebrity mark in my profile, I'd fixate on GMAT.
If I were from an underrepresented group, I'd work on GMAT decently and enhance the profile with several available organizations to gain additional credibility to give back. (The system for providing equity isn't perfect but I'd say it still works to the advantage of underrepresented pools/industries viz space, etc. so take full advantage of the opportunity).

Is a 3.4 GPA to low for HBS? Considering a 770 GMAT on the side
I don’t know if you attended any webinars by HBS: GMAT offsets for a low GPA. and quite honestly, GPA quality also matters- 3.5 GPA of HBS v 4.0 of let’s say a very low ranked school. (Can’t compare). Short answer- your GMAT decently offsets GPA regardless of quality.
