Hey everyone,

I'm Jordanian applying from Oman (Application submitted: 28-Aug, Video/Written component submitted: 30-Aug).

Stats - GMAT: 560, MEng graduate from Manchester university - GPA: second class division one, 5 years work exp in oil and gas with career progression

I think I did well in my essay and video/written assessment and my references were excellent (to me lol) .

Received an email from Danielle on 9-Sep, informing me that she had an initial review of my app and asking whether I'm planning to rewrite my GMAT?

I responded yes in January 2022, considering my post MBA goal and knowing that my current score (560) does not reflect my true abilities.

I think it's nice she asked (didn't reject me straight up lol), but I'm wondering if anybody has heard of a similar experience? I do have a feeling I might be waitlisted though...any thoughts??

I think it would be good if you retake your GMAT (or try the GRE) earlier; your profile looks strong, but the red flag is your GMAT score. Did Danielle invite you to an interview?

Yes I definitely believe i should cause yes it’s a **** score 😂

She didn’t invite me for an interview. I have a had a chat with an alum with GMAT 580 though. So sometimes they see something that prompts them to just pick you..

Danielle is trying to solidify your application. It's obvious that she liked your profile, but at the end of the day, she is not the only decision maker. She presents your file to the ad com. If she asked you this question, it indicates that if you retake it and score around Rotman's average class score (around 677 for 2023 cohort), you are most likely to be accepted!

Hey guys,

Can someone (alum, current applicant, expert, admission consultant or anyone) throw some light on job prospects for Rotman graduates in the Private Equity / Venture Capital space? I know Rotman is known for placing students in the "Financial Services" industry. However, I am not sure if that is just restricted to Banking. I checked the list of employers and found quite a few PEs/VCs and other funds. But can someone please confirm the same.

PE/VC isn’t a lot. For e.g. in 2020, only 2 folks got placed in PE and they had prior experience. Overall for PE/VC, they want you to have prior relevant experience or have done IB for 1-2 years in Canada.

Hey Shashank933, , It really does depend on how strong your application is. Ideally you should hear from them in 2-4 weeks after submission, as they take applications on rolling basis.

Pre-MBA Industry: I was in the Financial Services (Hedge Funds) industry for the first 3 years after graduation. During this time I also started my own entrepreneurial venture in retail/e-commerce. I quit the corporate sphere in March 2021 to expand my business further.

Pre-MBA Functions: I started out as an Auditor and then moved into the role of Accounting and Operations Analyst in the same industry. I’m currently focusing my efforts on my Entrepreneurial Venture.

Years of Corporate Experience: 3
Years of Entrepreneurial Experience: 2+ (Intially Part-Time and now Full-Time)

Not sure what else to really include. So please feel free to reach out for any further specific information. I’ll post a debrief for my interview once that’s done.
