Hey everyone! I’m intend to apply for the LBS MBA (2026 intake) and have about 2 months to prepare for either the GMAT or GRE. I’m trying to decide which one to go for. Have any of you considered the pros and cons from both an LBS admissions perspective and potential employer preferences—especially in consulting or finance? Would love to hear your thoughts or what you’re choosing and why. Thanks!
Afreed with the replies shared below! From an LBS admissions perspective, both GMAT and GRE are accepted, so there’s no clear advantage of one over the other. However, if you're targeting consulting or finance, the GMAT is generally preferred, as it’s more widely recognized and traditionally associated with those sectors.

If you're strong in quant, the GMAT might be a good choice, as its focus on quantitative reasoning aligns well with the consulting and finance sectors. However, if you feel more confident with verbal reasoning or struggle with the GMAT’s quant section, the GRE could be a better fit.

Ultimately, choose the test that plays to your strengths (priority). If you're unsure, take a practice test for both and see which one feels more comfortable. Best of luck!

Any idea what communication they had with the school?
Or can you connect me with them?

Hey,

From an LBS admissions standpoint, both the GMAT and GRE are accepted equally. The key is showing strong academic potential—especially in quant—so go with the test you’re more confident in, especially with just two months to prepare.

  1. Employer Preference (Consulting/Finance):
For MBB consulting and top finance roles, the GMAT still carries slightly more weight, particularly in Europe. Some firms may even ask for GMAT scores during recruiting, though this is less common now. If you’re targeting these fields, GMAT might give you a slight edge.
  2. Test Format Fit:
The GMAT Focus is shorter, more quant/data-heavy, and better for structured thinkers. The GRE can be more forgiving on quant and suits those stronger in vocab or reading. Take a diagnostic for both and go with the one that plays to your strengths.
  3. Score Benchmarks:
LBS’s average GMAT hovers around 700+, while a GRE of 325+ is competitive. What matters most is achieving your highest possible score—regardless of test type.

At Admit Scholar, we help you pick the right test, build a focused prep plan, and connect with admits who’ve made similar choices. And remember—every MBA journey is different. If you’re unsure, book a free consultation call with us—we’d be happy to guide you.

Hey!

If you’re prepping for the LBS MBA interview, here’s a quick summary based on recent 2024/2025 applicant experiences:
  • Matching Process: After shortlisting, LBS takes ~1–2 weeks to match you with an alum from your target industry.
  • Interview Format: Lasts about 50–75 minutes, broken into:
    • ~30 mins of personal/behavioral questions
    • ~10–15 mins for a case discussion
    • ~5 mins for your questions
    • You’ll need to show your passport at the start.

Common Questions:
  • Tell me about yourself, Why MBA, Why LBS, Post-MBA goals
  • Cultural differences, international exposure, strengths/weaknesses
  • Sector-specific or situational questions (e.g., company restructure)

Case Interview:
You’ll get a short prompt (usually linked to your background), 5 mins to prepare, then 10 mins to present. Some interviewers switch off their video while you prep.

Tips from recent candidates:
  • Know your story, but keep it natural and conversational.
  • It’s not a grilling session—they’re assessing fit, not perfection.
  • Practice case structuring and be aware of your profile’s weak spots.
  • Enjoy it! Many say it felt more like a great conversation than an interview.

At Admit Scholar, we can connect you with recent LBS admits, run mock interviews (case included), and help you refine your story. You can Book a free consultation call.

Has anyone in R1,2 or 3 who was invited to interview (may now have been admitted) been asked to retake their GMAT?

LBS does not specify about the acceptability of the online GRE on their website. It is better to check with this school if they accept the online gre.

Regarding the standardized test, LBS might ask you to retake if your candidacy is strong enough. Be ready for the retake as well

Has anyone ever asked LBS for an early decision due to visa deadlines from another school? I’m wondering if it’s okay to reach out to them and explain that I’m under time pressure because of a visa timeline with another offer. Do they ever accommodate that kind of request?

I’d appreciate your opinion on my R1 MBA application profile. I have a 705 GMAT Focus score, a 3.95 GPA, and will have around 7 years of work experience at matriculation.
Do you think this gives me a strong chance? What other key factors should I focus on?
Also, is there a chance to schedule an online meeting with a member of the admissions team?

Hi, you do have a competitive score and strong GPA. Your number of years of professional experience also gives you an edge. However in our experience working with successful applicants at LBS the type of experience is very important and how you pitch in mainly highlighting initiative and quantifiable achievements. We could schedule a meeting with someone from our team. You can contact our office @ 022-61453737
