To determine whether Cory purchased his item on the first day, let’s first analyze the first statement:

(1) Standard shipping was the only method of shipping used for items purchased on the first day.

This tells us that all items purchased on the first day were shipped using standard shipping.

It does not provide any information about whether Cory's item was purchased on the first or second day. Without additional information about Cory's item or the shipping method used, this statement alone is not sufficient to answer the question. Hence we can eliminate options (A) & (D).

---

(2) The item Cory purchased was a clearance item.

This tells us that Cory's item was a clearance item, and based on the problem, we know that all clearance items were shipped using standard shipping. However, it does not specify which day Cory made the purchase. Clearance items could have been purchased on either day, so this statement alone is not sufficient to answer the question. Hence we can eliminate option (B) as well.

Combining (A) and (B):

From (2), we know Cory's item was a clearance item, and therefore it was shipped with standard shipping.

From (1), we know that only standard shipping was used on the first day.

Together, these statements imply that Cory's clearance item could have been purchased on the first day (when only standard shipping was used) or the second day (when clearance items also used standard shipping).

There is no definitive link to conclude that Cory purchased his item on the first day. Hence we can eliminate option (C) & the only option remaining is option (E) & that is the answer.

Conclusion:

Even when combined, the two statements are not sufficient to determine whether Cory purchased his item on the first day. Hence the answer is option (E) None of the statements are sufficient.

A certain online store sold a number of items over the course of two consecutive days and shipped each item on the day it was sold. During those two days, every clearance item was shipped with standard shipping, and every item that was shipped with rush shipping was non-clearance. Did Cory purchase his item on the first day?

Every Clearance item shipped from Standard Delivery
Every non Clearance Item shipped from Standard Delivery

(1) Standard shipping was the only method of shipping used for items purchased on the first day.

Option A Says:
1. 1st Day only Standard Shipping possible
2. 2nd day standard and Rushed Shipping Possible

So, Not sufficient.

(2) The item Cory purchased was a clearance item.
Clearly insufficient

Now combine both options
Item Cory purchase was an clearance item and must be shppined by standard shipping only, and standard shipping can be done on both days.

So Insufficient.

hence E is the answer

To determine whether Cory purchased his item on the first day, let's analyze the given statements.

Given Information:
Every clearance item was shipped with standard shipping.
Every item shipped with rush shipping was non-clearance.
Statement (1):
Standard shipping was the only method of shipping used for items purchased on the first day.
This means that all items purchased on the first day were shipped with standard shipping. However, this statement alone does not provide any information about whether Cory's item was purchased on the first day or the second day. We need more information about Cory's item to make a determination.

Statement (2):
The item Cory purchased was a clearance item.
Since Cory's item was a clearance item, it must have been shipped with standard shipping. However, this statement alone does not provide information about which day Cory purchased his item. Both days could have clearance items shipped with standard shipping.

Combining Statements (1) and (2):
From Statement (1), we know that standard shipping was the only method of shipping used for items purchased on the first day.
From Statement (2), we know that Cory's item was a clearance item, which means it was shipped with standard shipping.
Given that standard shipping was the only method used on the first day, and Cory's item was shipped with standard shipping (because it was a clearance item), it is logical to conclude that Cory must have purchased his item on the first day. If Cory had purchased his item on the second day, there would be no restriction on the shipping method, but since standard shipping was exclusively used on the first day, it aligns with the information provided.

Conclusion:
Both statements together are sufficient to determine that Cory purchased his item on the first day. Therefore, the correct answer is:

(C) Both statements together are sufficient.

(1) Standard shipping was the only method of shipping used for items purchased on the first day.
But we don't know whether cory purchases cleance or rush shipping item NS

(2) The item Cory purchased was a clearance item.
But we don't know if some clearance items were also sold on day 2 NS

Combined
However, knowing that Cory’s item was shipped using standard shipping does not tell us whether it was purchased on the first or second day, as standard shipping could have been used on both days for clearance items.
Even when combined, the statements do not provide enough information to determine whether Cory purchased his item on the first day

Win $40,000 in prizes: Courses, Tests & more

Given
Two days of sales: Day 1 and Day 2.
Clearance items: Only shipped with standard shipping.
Rush shipping: Only for non-clearance items.

Question: Did Cory purchase his item on the first day

Statement (1) is insufficient. As it won;t give correct picture.

Same is the case with Statemnt 2: The item Cory purchased was a clearance item.

Nothing about first dayin the stmt 2.

So by combining both

From Statement (1): On Day 1, only standard shipping was used.
From Statement (2): Cory’s item was a clearance item (and thus shipped with standard shipping).
Combining these facts, Cory’s item could have been purchased on either Day 1 or Day 2, since clearance items are shipped with standard shipping on both days.

There is no clear-cut solution. Hence IMO E

It is given that,
Standard shipping was the only method used on the first day
Cory's item was a clearance item
Every clearance item was shipped with standard shipping
Every item shipped with rush shipping was non-clearance

Statement 1:
It is given that all items purchased on the first day were shipped using standard shipping

Statement 1 is not sufficient

Statement 2:
Cory's item was a clearance item
All clearance items are shipped with standard shipping

Statement 2 is not sufficient

Combine Statements 1 and 2:
Cory’s clearance item could have been purchased on the first day since all items shipped on the first day were standard shipping
It could also have been shipped on the second day, where clearance items could still be shipped with standard shipping

Answer: E Neither statement is sufficient

Using 1)we dont know which shipping cory had, hence not sufficient.

Using 2) we dont know when was clearance items up for sale. not sifficient

Using both, Sufficient

If clearance item was purchased by cory and since they are only have standard shipping, therefore cory purchased items on first day

S1 Not sufficient because we do know nothing about the item Cory bought
S2 Not sufficient because we do not when exactly clearance items were sold
Cory could have bought the item on the first day or any other day apart from the two days so we cannot tell hence E

2 consecutive days: shipped the item on the day it was sold
Standard Shipping: Clearance item
Rush Shipping: Non-Clearance item

Did Cory purchase his items on the first day?

Statement 1: Standard shipping was the only method of shipping used for items purchased on the first day.

This means that on the first day, only clearance items were being purchased.

We still do not know what Cory purchased, so this is not enough.
Statement 1 is not sufficient.

Statement 2: The item Cory purchased was a clearance item.

We know what type of item Cory has purchased but we do not know when it was sold nor the mode of shipping.

Statement 2 is not sufficient.

Statement (1) + (2)

Cory purchased a clearance item, which means it was on standard shipping. Standard shipping was used only on the first day.

So, the answer is Yes and the information is sufficient.

[C] is the correct answer.

Answer is E. Neither statement is sufficient

1) This is insufficient alone as we don't know anything about Cory.
2) This is insufficient alone as we don't know anything about items shipped on the two days.
1&2) This is insufficient as we know it is possible Cory purchased his item on the first day, but it is also possible that he purchased his item on the second day as the statements don't indicate that clearance items were sold only on the first day. While we do know that only clearance items were sold on the first day, the statements don't give any information about whether clearance items were also sold on the second day.

Solve step by step:

1) Given:
  • All clearance items → standard shipping
  • All rush shipping → non-clearance items

2) Statement 1: The first day only used standard shipping
  • Not sufficient alone
  • Could be a clearance or non-clearance item

3) Statement 2: Cory bought clearance item
  • Must have used standard shipping
  • It could be either day

4) Together:
  • We know Cory's item was clearance (standard shipping)
  • The first day only used standard shipping
  • Still can't determine which day Cory bought

Answer: E - Both statements together insufficient

Clearance Item -> Standard Shipping
Non-Clearance Item -> Rush Shipping

(1) Standard shipping was the only method of shipping used for items purchased on the first day.
Not Sufficient; since not related to Cory;

(2) The item Cory purchased was a clearance item.
Cory Purchased a Clearance Item, which means that the item must be shipped with standard shipping. But doesn't provide any information related to the day on which this item was purchased or shipping happened. So not sufficient.

But by combining both statements we can say that if cory got the item though standard shipping it must be purchased on the first day.

So C is the answer.

(1) Given the question does not state the whether the purchased item is clearance or not, Cory can purchase his clearance item on second day with rush shipping method (Insufficient)
(2) Clearance item, although is in standard shipping term, can be purchased on either first day or second day (Insufficient)

(1)+(2)
Given every clearance item was shipped with standard shipping and Cory purchased a clearance item. It must be shipped on standard shipping.
But Cory can purchase clearance item either on first day and second day and can be shipped with standard shipping.
In the question, no second day's information is given, so it is still possible for Cory to purchase clearance item on second day (Insufficient)

Therefore the answer is E

There are two types of items, clearance and non clearance
Clearance was shipped with Standard Shipping
Non Clearance was shipped with Rush Shipping

A) Standard shipping was the only method of shipping used for items purchased on the first day => If only we knew what type of item Cory purchased we could have deduced something from this option
NS

B) Cory purchased a clearance item => We dont know which day clearance items were shipped
NS

C) Cory purchased a clearance item (II statement)=> Cory had a rush shipping => There was no rush shipping on first day (I statement) => Cory purchased the item on second day
