Statement1-
Given-Standard shipping was the only method of shipping used for items purchased on the first day.
=> All items sold on the first day were shipped using standard shipping, which could include both clearance and non-clearance items. Also, it does not specify whether Cory's item was purchased on the first day, nor does it provide any information about the nature of Cory's item.
So, Statement1 is insufficient.
Statement2-
Given- The item Cory purchased was a clearance item.
=> Cory's item was shipped with standard shipping (since all clearance items are shipped with standard shipping). However, this does not specify which day Cory made the purchase, as clearance items could have been sold on either day.

Taking both statements together-

(1) Not sufficient, actually didn't provide new information so it's impossible that Answer C is also an option. Eliminate A,D and C.

The logical chains are as follows:
Let's start with (2), where we know that the item was clearance. Using the logic from above, it means it used standard shipping. Insufficient as no info on days.
(1) Purchased on 1st day => standard
Purchased on 2nd day => no information; hence, insufficient by itself.
Taking (1) + (2), we know that all first day items were sent standard, and this may have been Cory's shipment - but we have zero info on day 2, so cannot assume anything.
Insufficient together, so the answer is E.
- clearance => standard
- rush => non-clearance
