Hello.
I am interested in the subject program, the residential option. I would like to ask whether a GMAT focus score of 675 is good enough or whether I should retake the test. I have found that the median for MIT Sloan is 720, which corresponds to a focus score of 675, whereas the mid 80% range is 680 to 760, which corresponds to GMAT focus of 615 to 735. But this information applies to the MBA admissions. I could not find any information about the respective ranges for the specific program.
A little background information: I am international (from Greece). I have also completed the Micromasters in SCM and managed to achieve a perfect score 100% at the SC0x course. The score in this last one can be submitted in lieu of the GMAT, as per the admission information in their website. Will it hurt me to submit a "subpar" (in comparison to the SC0x) GMAT score? Or does the addition of the GMAT score strengthen my application, considering that it is equal to the median (or maybe a little higher or lower for the specific program of interest)? Should I bother retaking it?
Hello
ioannispar,
Let's analyze your situation regarding the GMAT score for the MIT Sloan Residential Master of Supply Chain Management (MSCM) program.
Key Considerations:
Median vs. 80th Percentile: While the median GMAT for the MBA program is 720 (equivalent to your Focus score of 675), the 80th percentile range for the MBA (615-735) suggests that a significant portion of admitted MBA students score within a range that includes your score.
MSCM Specifics: You're correct that finding precise GMAT score ranges for the MSCM program might be challenging. However, given the program's focus on quantitative skills and the overall competitiveness of MIT, a higher score can strengthen your application.
SC0x Score: Your perfect score in the SC0x course is a significant achievement and a strong indicator of your academic capability in supply chain management. This will undoubtedly be a major asset in your application.
Should you retake the GMAT?
Pros:
Higher Score: A higher GMAT score can improve your competitiveness, especially if you believe you can significantly increase your Quant score.
Peace of Mind: Retaking the exam can reduce anxiety and give you more confidence in your application.
Cons:
Time Constraints: Retaking the GMAT might delay your application process and impact your chances of meeting deadlines.
Risk of Lower Score: There's always a risk of scoring lower on a retake.
Recommendation:
Given your strong performance in the SC0x course and the competitive nature of the MSCM program, we recommend speaking with our postgraduate experts as they will walk through your profile and offer better recommendations.
Ultimately, the decision to retake the GMAT is a personal one. Consider your circumstances and goals and weigh the potential benefits against the risks.
Additional Tips:
Highlight your SC0x achievement: In your application essays, emphasize your perfect score in the SC0x course and how it demonstrates your dedication and aptitude for supply chain management.
Strong Recommendations: Secure strong letters of recommendation from professors, supervisors, or mentors who can attest to your academic abilities, work ethic, and potential.
Tailor your application: Carefully research the MSCM program and tailor your essays to demonstrate your fit with the program's goals and your career aspirations.
Ultimately, the best approach is to build a strong application showcasing your academic and professional achievements.
