We are not given the exact population of any county. Also how can we say that higher % of outdoor activity means they are actually living near that place? What if people in my city love to go on trekking.? Does it mean we have a mountain near us?

Hi,

Here is my attempt at answering your question.

The question asks -

"Hey, there are these statements given, do you think these statements support the data given?"

So, we are looking for correlation, not necessarily MBT conditions.

Quote:
"The proportion of the population in Coldwater County that lives near at least one beach is greater than that in Rekeist County."
We know from the data that Coldwater County has more number of people going to the beaches than those from Rekeist County - then, would the above statement lend support? YES -> If more people are living near the beaches (or atleast one of the beaches) then there is more likelihood of people going to the beach.

Quote:
Of the counties listed in the table, Tejon County has the largest number of entertainment parks per 1000 residents.
I got this wrong. :/ Because I assumed that we don't have the actual number, but the statement only talks about the density of entertainment parks, which we know from the data is higher. If the density (i.e., the number of entertainment parks per 1000 residents is higher), then the percentage of people going to the park will be high.

Quote:
Of the counties listed in the table, the two that spend most to promote their forest preserves are also those whose residents prefer mountain trails the most.
There is no correlation between this statement and the actual data supported.

Let me know if this makes sense :)

This is a very poor quality question compared to actual gmat questions:
from the statements:
1)The proportion of the population in Coldwater County that lives near at least one beach is greater than that in Rekeist County.- just because the % population going is more, we cannot infer that they live near, and also we dont know about the acutal population sizes for each county.
2) Of the counties listed in the table, Tejon County has the largest number of entertainment parks per 1000 residents.-% people engaged in outdoor parks is highest doesnt mean that they have the largest number of parks.

IMO try to avoid such questions as it derails your thought process when giving actual gmat exam

Not only is this a poor quality question, the reasoning behind the questioning is also questionable. How can proportion be obtained merely through percentage stats between distinct populations ?
