i think i have not understood the question.

shouldn't the question give the minimum daily requirement of both the vitamins also, or AM I JUST CONFUSED?

1gm = 7E + 3A
2 gm = 2(7E + 3A) = 14E + 6A and so on ...

Now we need 100 E and 100 A daily.

If I eat one gram I will get only 7E and 3A. But I have no other source of E and A.

To get 100 A i will need to eat bit more than 33g of the supplement. because 33*3 =99

We need approx answer only. So answer is E

Where does the question say what the minimum daily requirement is?


The question says.. 1 gram of the food has 7% of minimum daily requirement for Vit E and 3% of Vit A.

And asks to find - how much of the food you need for 100% of E and 100% of A daily requirement.

The questions asks for minimum daily requirement of both vitamins and not minimum amount to get 100% both vitamins. I added 3 and 7 and opted answer as 10. Can you please tell me where I am going wrong? I didnt understand why we are calculating for 100%. Thanks

Least quantity contained is Vitamin E = 3%

Minimum consumption \(= \frac{100}{3} = 33\)

Answer = E

7% of total daily requirement of vitamin E = 1gm of a certain health food
1% of total daily requirement of vitamin E = 0.14 (100/7 )gm of a certain health food
100% of total daily requirement of vitamin E = 14.28 gm of a certain health food

Thus 14.28gm of certain health food is required for the mminimum daily requirement of Vtamin E.

What amout vitamin B ?

3% of total daily requirement of vitamin A = 1gm of a certain health food
1% of total daily requirement of vitamin A = 0.33 (100/3 )gm of a certain health food
100% of total daily requirement of vitamin A = 33.33 gm of a certain health food

So, 33.33gm of the certain health food is required for maintaining the minimum daily requirement of Vitamin A.

14gm of certain health food is required for the mminimum daily requirement of Vtamin E & 33.33gm of the certain health food is required for maintaining the minimum daily requirement of Vitamin A.

If the person takes 33 gms of a certain health food then it will fulfil his daily requirement of both Vitamin A and Vitamiin E.


Hence the correct answer is (E) !!

Heb Abhishek,

sure. One gram of a certain health food contains 7 percent of the minimum daily requirement of vitamin E and 3 percent of the minimum daily requirement of vitamin A. So in each gram, there is 0.07 grams of vitamin E and 0.03 grams of vitamin A. As per my understanding of this question, we must consume at least 1 gram of each vitamin. To consumer at least 1 gram of vitamin A, we would need to consumer 34 grams of a certain health food: 34 * 0.03 = 1.02 grams. 1 gram less of healthy food would only account to 0.99 grams.

Same idea in percentage points: 3% * 33 = 99%, so 1% is missing. Hence, one gram more.

Apparently I am missing some key info.

Yes, 33 would only account for 99%. For the other 1%, we need another 1/3 gms.

So the actual answer would be 33(1/3).

Now look at the question again:
"approximately how many grams of the health food must be eaten daily to provide at least the minimum daily requirement of both vitamins"

You are looking for an approximate value of 33(1/3) gms. That approximate value could be 33 gms.

Hence answer (E)

It's a bit of a weird question but anyways- what the question is really asking is at what quantity of this certain health food would the daily requirement for both vitamin E and vitamin A be satisfied- it doesn't matter if one vitamin is superfluous rather it just matters that the quantity provided provides 100 percent of each vitamin- so pick a simple value

100(.07) =.07
100(.03)= .03

33000(.07) =241 percent of vitamin E...damn mate
33000(.03)=99 percent of vitamin A- this is close enough

Since it will take more grams to get the 3 percent requirement, we can focus just on the number of grams that must be consumed to get the minimum daily requirement of vitamin A. Thus:

0.03n = 1

n = 1/0.03 = 100/3 = 33.33

Answer: E

You get only 3% Vitamin A from 1 gram and 7% Vitamin E from 1 gram, and since the questions requires minimum amount to get 100% both vitamins, we need to focus on Vitamin A

1 gram - 3%
x gram - 100%
x = 33.3

Answer E will only give 99% of daily reaquirements though :?:


shouldn't it be 21? i,e 7*3? I know its not amongst the options,but just curious.
