Applied R2 with sub 3.0 gpa, already segregated into 10% of the class by gpa is not good when the class is 250 people =/

Hey, I am in the same situation but R3 applicant. Goodluck to you!

I can't say you can get into Haas with a sub 3.0 because I had not been accepted yet.
But I was accepted to Kellogg and was invited to interview for Haas(R1) with a extremely sub 3.0 GPA this year.

I hope this kindles some hope to the sub 3.0'ers out there.

cheers

Is it Ok to reach 550-560 words for an essay with 500 word limit? How does the adcom consider this?

I brought down my Goals essay from 800 words to 560 and now I can not compress it further.\

- MM

You can always compress the essays more. Just when I thought I couldn't, I was able to get all of mine down to within +10 to 15 words over the limit (for the 500 and 1000 word essays). I don't think the adcom will ding you flat out for going over, but 550-560 is noticeable, so you don't want to give them any reasons to doubt your application.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks kryzak! I am working on reducing the length. One more question.I gave my first TOEFL in Aug 06 which is expired. I was supposed to give my new TOEFL exam on 19th Dec 09. But the exam center was closed because of the snow storm in Philadelphia. Also, the ETS is not conducting any TOEFL till 15th Jan. The nearest date I could get was 30th Jan. Would the adcom understand this and still consider me for R2?

Thanks,
MM

I tried to be especially careful with essay length for Haas, since essays are input directly into a web form, so they can automatically count words, and there isn't any formatting/font magic you can do to make it look shorter. At least with other schools, you can submit as a pdf, so it would be tougher for them to count words.

I believe the R2 deadline was 12/10/2009, which means even if you took it on 12/19 without the snowstorm, it would have been too late. I would check with the admissions office by phone to confirm.

Ahh, in that case, I don't know enough about the EWMBA requirements to comment. I would try the AdCom on 1/4 when they get back into the office.

To those of you (us) still waiting for R1 interview invitations, I found it extremely useful to check this topic's thread from last year and also to compare the % of gmatclubbers who have received interview invitations from schools with similar acceptance rates (not many as low as Haas, unfortunately).

If you check the thread from last year, you will see that a handful of invitations went out the week after the holiday, January 3-8 or so. In addition, in 2008 R1 about 50% of gmatclub Haas applicants received interviews and in 2009 R1 that went down to about 30%. Also useful, on threads of schools with similar acceptance rates, at least 30% of applicants have been receiving interviews (that number hovers around 50% for highly ranked schools with higher acceptance rates).

However, on this thread, only 6 out of 27 applicants have received interview invitations, below 25%. Therefore, I would like to make the highly scientific conclusion that 4 or 5 more gmatclubbers will receive invitations this week.

*The numbers also reveal that about 5 or 6 of us will be put on the waitlist, with 2 or 3 eventually getting in.

Good luck everyone!

For what it's worth, I have a friend who applied to Columbia with a sub 3.0 gpa and a GMAT in the middle 80% range, and he received an interview. He's still waiting to hear back. Hope that gives some encouragement.

Step away from the calculator... ha. Thanks for the statistical comparative analysis.
