There are many benefits to timing your practice, including:
You have to remember, they are counting the self initiated interviews as well in that figure. So 71% tells your very little because you don't know how many were self-initiated and how many were invites. Make sense?
Did Duke held self-initiated interviews last year as well?

No idea, but if they interview 70% this year...you still don't know how many people did self-initiated, so no way to determine how many invites will go out.
I think the only benefit to waiting for an invite rather than doing self-initiated is that if you don't get an invite, you know (for the most part) that you got dinged...
I almost wish I hadn't done the open interview and waited for an invite. At least that way you get some sort of feedback (positive or negative) within a reasonable time frame.

That may be true but I think the open interview shows interest in the school which is obvi important. Plus, you save like $150 (assuming you weren't going to an info session anyway). I'm in the same boat as you. It's frustrating to wait but I think we made the right decision.
I got the same email. But NOT INVITED Although Duke wasn't my "best fit school", I am disappointed. However, this was my first application and wasnt well written at all. I wish that is the reason and there is nothing wrong with my profile
There is a small disclaimer in the email that says, the decision isn't final! But I guess it's very less likely that the decision will change.
Tried posting a moment ago but looks like it didn't go through...
Anyway, I also got the email and a "not invited" status. Oh well. But congrats to all who get invited and best of luck during the rest of the process with Duke!
