I don't believe your chances of admission into a top 20 school are very good with a 640 score. You should be competitive at Michigan State, SMU, South Carolina, and maybe schools like Maryland and Iowa.

Well thanks for all the inputs, but heres what I found out in these three days :

GMAT score is not that important in the application process, but it is indeed a factor which needs to be compensated by excellent apps/essays if its not up to 700's range ...

Secondly , my friends have got admitted to schools like IE and other top 20s with scores as low as 620 ...

I hope this is a booster for all those people who are indeed meant for these courses and couldnt perform well on the day of GMAT ..

I agree, I have examples of people getting into ISB, India at score of as low as 630 - 650 (but their profiles were powerful).
