When I think about it, I paid $200+ to pour my heart and declare my eternal love and commitment to a school, only to be told that I am not good enough for them. This must be the craziest thing I have ever done!

...not dinged yet, but as time passes, I cannot get rid of this idea of having done something truly crazy and illogical...

Consider it a date. You pay for dinner, and you're not sure how it's going to end. It's a risk you take. But only here, you decide if it's a good match through your essays, instead of a 2-3 hr long interview.

If we are going to use the dating analogy...usually girls like the guy that ignores them right? So maybe for my next application I'll just write 'whatever' for each essay. Perhaps the school will chase ME. Hmm.

Completely offtopic - but most of the top 10 US B-schools (and outside of the top-10 list too) have some loan programme for international students (non-US cosignor loans). Even Stern started it from last year. But it looks like Columbia is not even trying to get a programm in place. Does anyone (current Columbia students, alumni) have any information as to if there is a chance for any loan programme to be strated this year?

Does anyone know how long CBS takes to get back to you about your decision after your application goes complete? Also, do they have to call you about admission or can you just receive a status change email? Thanks

Most likely you will get a phone call if you are admitted. As far as time between 'interview complete' and the decision, it could be 1 day...it could be 3-4 weeks.

I was just placed on the waitlist. I'm applying for J-term. Is this a positive sign? I understand that the waitlist is better than an outright rejection but do people at CBS generally come off the list? Does anyone have any advice on what to do next?

I interviewed 10/25, app went complete 10/29, follow-up adcom call 11/9, admit 11/11

only 25 people on the class of 2013 fb page, so PLENTY of room for you all - don't lose hope!!

Welcome to the club! Firstly, I kindly request you to share your profile with us.

Secondly, thank you, in a way you just made my day better: if they are still putting people on the waitlist at this point, it is likely that they will get people off the waitlist and into the class of 2012.

Please refer some pages back as for advice on what to do and not to do (I and jmtomaz posted some advices).

Finally, answering your question, I think waitlist for J-term works differently so I am very optimistic about our chances.

The biggest thing I noticed is that far fewer applicants were interviewed last year. 27% down from 36%. That's a pretty substantial drop off. Based simply on those numbers, your odds go to around 56% admit chance if you're interviewed. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out this year, but hopefully it bodes well for us ED applicants.

I should have clarified. The 27 & 36% numbers come from the businessweek rankings pages. They updated the profile for CBS for last year (with a sinister 6666 apps for CBS), and in the last admissions cycle they interviewed 27% of applicants.
