Good analogy - similar in the sense that you've probably sacrificed many hours for her (GMAT, social life, applications). And like B-school, you can always re-apply (when she breaks up for good w/ D-bag BF) and it's usually less work since you've already done the initial legwork

Yes, we've all sacrificed so much and know we'd be perfect with her, but there are a few hundred others courting her. The problem is when she doesn't recognize your greatness you end up doing what is best for yourself, realizing you can't wait around for her forever with the hope she'll want you. You meet someone else, and despite not being as pretty on the outside (i.e. as highly ranked) you learn the new girl loves you far greater anyway for who you truly are and you learn to love her despite her initial shortcomings, but.... you can't help wondering 'what could have been?'

The main difference is in dating, we are assuming a monogamous relationship whereas B-school is a like an old school Mormon relationship. You ain't the only one!

Until you get to that point many years in the future, where you are so happy with your life and everything that got you there that you wouldn't change a thing, and all you wonder is what could've been missed out on if that initial girl picked you instead. I think that's where most of us who are longing after a particular school will be at some point and no matter what I'm okay with that.

This reminds me of High School and I went to a Get Up Kids concert last night too.

Booth just updated the admissions blog:
https://blogs.chicagobooth.edu/boothinsider/

Reminds me of when a company comes out early and announces it may miss earnings. The company thinks it is gently lowering expectations, but in reality there is a huge, over-reactive sell-off. Either way, it is disappointment for its shareholders (i.e. R2 candidates).

Jesus, doesn't that just fill you up with warm fuzzies? #terrified.

Quick question that I saw was mentioned before but was not sure if it got answered:

Do all US applicants who are accepted receive a call the day before (in this case 2/15)? So, for instance, if you are in the US and you DON'T get a call, should you consider yourself done?

I don't think so. The following is from last year's chat:

"The final decisions for round 2 will be released on the decision date, March 24th at 9:00 am. Everyone will receive an email prompting them to log in to the system to check their status. If time permits we may attempt to call the admitted students prior to 9:00 am release time. Keep in mind we are not always successful in reaching everyone prior to the decision release."

Maybe someone else has more info on this?

I don't recall any US applicants being admitted without at least receiving a missed call and a voicemail. They can't always get a hold of everyone, but if you are in the US, I'm fairly certain they will call.

Anyone have any details on this "generous financial aid policy"? Is this new? Sounds like good news... (except for the whole getting in part).

Nick2010

Booth´s upward momentum + Very generous financial aid policy + Wharton situation = higher yield for Booth.

80% is consistent with what I am seeing in my neck o´the woods (very small in the grand scheme of things though)

During my R2 on-campus interview (and campus visit) one of the Admissions staff mentioned that they had been very generous with scholarships in R1 and that securing $$$ in R2 would be very competitive. Also, when one of the prospective students asked her if it was true that Booth accepts half of the interview pool in each round, she seemed uncertain how to respond and tried to avoid the question.

In terms of financial aid (or scholarships) I have a feeling that Booth is generous to a select few. I have been able to secure scholarships at other schools but Booth was the most elusive for me. Personally I don't believe Booth has been giving out money to a lot of people, imo. I'm speaking as a R1 admit.

Did you go for admit week? Considering you've received scholarships elsewhere, where have you decided to go, if I may ask?

This caught my attention:

" There is no formula that we use to determine who is admitted. We strive to select the people we feel most thoroughly embody the values that we live every day...At the end of the day, it is fit that proves to be our final litmus test. Each admitted student is reviewed by at minimum 5 members of our committee (student fellow, first admissions director, interviewer, second admissions director, me)."

So after all, "being fit" gets you in. This really reminds me of my interview. I am not sure at all my interviewer liked me i.e. she thought that I am a good fit for Chicago Booth. There were times when I felt that she disagreed with what I was saying and somehow disliked me.

IMO, interviews are important in the sense that it helps gauge how an applicant gets on well with the school representative, thus, fits with the school. Last year, my friend blew up his interview with HBS and he got dinged.

I can't give you the precise number, but the person who originally posted the ~370 offers woefully underestimated the number of admit offers that were made in R1.

Hi dalillama

Maybe not the precise number but would you be able to tell us roughly how many offers were made in R1?

It seems like Wharton has put out an uncommonly big waitlist for R1 this year, only admitting the strongest candidates outright. What I see in that is that a lot of people that in a regular year would be admitted in Wharton´s R1, have instead been put in the waitlist, and made their deposits in other peer schools (Booth, Kellogg, MIT, etc).

It has been rumored that Wharton puts a lot of people in waiting list in Round 1 and interviews a greater percentage of Round 2 applicants.

I am not really sure whether wait-listed applicants from Wharton would withdraw deposits from Booth if they are accepted by Wharton in Round 2.

Withdraw from Booth, you mean. If I am not mistaken, it is a non-refundable deposit so I doubt anyone would ask for the money back. If they're courteous, they would inform Booth that they would not be joining the school. But even if they were to do that, Booth WL-ers from R2 (and those remaining from R1) would only hear about being admitted mid-May during R3 decisions or any time through the summer. That means waiting, waiting, waiting...

I agree with this; at the admit weekend there didn't seem to a huge number of people with scholarships.

For those thinking David Booth's money is being used for scholarships, while the interest alone could be used to pay the tuition fees for an entire class, all of the Booth staff I've spoken to tell me it's pretty much ring-fenced for retaining and attracting top faculty. There may be some extra money this year as ex-Dean Snyder managed to increase the endowment outside of Booth's donation, but I wouldn't be expecting the flood gates to open...
