Plz explain Q 5
i was confused between A and B and agreed to both but went for A. i think the word 'PRIMARILY' was the part that made this choice wrong but kindly explain the reasoning comparing both choices

Remember that paragraph 3 refers to what Reichert predicts these spiders would do. That doesn’t tell us what the passage suggests is actually their behavior. For that, we have to check Paragraph 2. Line 30 introduces an example of how spiders would be more willing to fight only when the item in dispute is valuable enough. That seems to be summed up perfectly by answer choice (B).

(A) is Extreme. We’re told that different levels of competition is a factor, but not that it’s the primary factor. This is a classic RC trap.

5. The passage suggests which one of the following about the behavior of A. aperta in conflict situations?

(A) They exhibit variations in fighting behavior from contest to contest primarily because of the different levels of competition for suitable sites in different habitats. - This is too narrow. "Different levels of competition for suitable sites in different habitats" is one of the reasons and not the primary reasons.

(B) They may confine their fighting behavior to displays if the value of a disputed resource is too low and the risk of physical injury is too great. - ok.

(C) They exhibit variations in fighting behavior that are similar to those exhibited by members of most other species of animals. - A comparison with most of them is out of scope.

(D) They are more likely to engage in escalated fighting during disputes than to limit their fighting behavior to visual and vocal displays. - Can't be inferred.

(E) They are more willing to engage in escalated fighting during conflict situations than are members of most other species of animals. - This comparison is out of scope.

Explanation

2. The author of the passage mentions Galápagos tortoises in the first paragraph most likely in order to

Consulting our roadmap, Paragraph 1 is about the traditional theory of animal conflict – animals have evolved so that conflicts don’t result in injury. The Galapagos tortoises are just an example of an animal that fits this theory, which is exactly what answer choice (E) says.

(A) According to traditional theory, this kind of behavior is the norm for all animals. Even if the new theory is valid, we still don’t know how many species may still fit the old theory – it could be a lot more than “a few.”

(B) Distortion. While this is apparently true of the tortoise, the author does not cite the tortoise as an exceptional example of just “some but not all” species. The author cites the tortoise as an excellent example of these behaviors because they fit the classical model

(C) Extreme. Again, the traditional theory is just that – a theory. The example of one animal does not support that theory’s application to “most species.”

(D) The tortoise is just one example of a nonaggressive fighting style, but there’s nothing here to suggest that the fighting style is unique.

Explanation

6. The primary purpose of the passage is to

Explanation

When we finished the passage, we noticed that the author never really had a strong opinion. He simply introduced the new theory, and that was that. So we have to make sure the correct answer doesn’t go any further than that.

(A) Simply presenting an alternative approach (i.e., theory)? That’s exactly what we want.

(B) While examples of a phenomenon are provided, this is not the author’s purpose. Those examples are provided to illustrate the new theory for the phenomeneon.

(C) The author does no evaluation. This is simply a descriptive passage.

(D) While the A.aperta evidence may refute the traditional theory, the passage never suggests that the theory is “controversial.” Too extreme.

(E) The author doesn’t suggest anything, let alone that the new theory may be inadequately supported. Plus, there is no research mentioned in this passage – simply predictions on how the new theory might apply.
