This executive order is nuts. Can he even do that?

What do you think are the implications?
Even if he doesn't impact student visas directly , next year internship round is sure to get affected as companies would be reluctant to hire internationals. What a bomb.

I would not rush to that conclusion. This could be another Muslim ban. I need to research this - is it constitutional - or will the courts say no to this. I am going to see what Rachel Maddow has to say and most of all, inquire with my old law school roommate who is an immigration attorney.

Also, really not sure that this would impact recruitment for next year - especially if he is voted out. COVID in general, economic recession in general, but maybe not this specifically. He is doing this as a purely political stunt. Businesses need international students - and we can take some heart in the fact that the OPT program is only one year but still around.

That said, if you are open to LBS or UK schools, put those in the mix. Hoping this goes through; but still unsure. https://www.ed.ac.uk/student-administration/immigration/news/uk-government-announces-2-year-graduate-work-visa

This is insanity. No policy details, just a tweet. I feel sorry all the talented international students, maybe it's not a good time to come to US. You'll be better off going to top programs in Canada or UK, at-least they have point/merit based immigration system.

Even thought F visas are not being blocked this has so a rippling effect- when will visas be processed? when will the working visas ban be uplifted? How does this effect internships? How does this effect the desire to study in the states when there is no clarity on when working visas will be permitted? Totally unconstitutional but an executive order in unprecedented times will let him get away with it. Man, what an asshole

I think by now it is pretty clear that only the Green card holders wwould be affected not the H1B but, yes, it will affect the job markets as he has mentioned in the speech that "GREAT Americans" will be the first to receive the jobs.

By that I am pretty sure he should mean the Native Americans given that everyone else is an outsider, right???
It's funny how an entire country that is dominated by immigrants choose such a vile person as their President. Well, I know they did have to pick between the "less of the two evils" in past elections. But seriously????
Create a none of the above option so that there can be a reelection

He is quite an dick, lol. America has a major political issue both in terms of polarization & candidates that are put forth. The main problem with the subject matter is that this essentially allows him to delay the opening of NVCs.
