I am a Chemical Engineer who obtained my B.Tech from IIT-BHU. With over seven years of experience in the Petroleum industry, I realized that an executive MBA was the logical next step. The GMAT, with its versatile applications, was the perfect choice to open new career avenues.
Starting the Preparation: Mastering Comprehension, a RevelationAs an engineer, I had a strong foundation in Quant but required assistance in the Verbal section. E-GMAT's structured course caught my attention, and I was immediately drawn to its trial version. Impressed, I quickly purchased the course and commenced my preparation. Regrettably, I initially rushed through the course and skipped the "Mastercomprehension" component, which proved to be a mistake. This haste reflected in my first mock score of 550.
Learning from MistakesUpon recognizing my error, I contacted E-GMAT's support team, who understood my rush due to a tight deadline. I took the GMAT and scored 670, but it was clear that my approach wasn't effective. I decided to entrust my GMAT preparation entirely to E-GMAT mentors, focusing on mastering concepts and heeding their expert advice. Over the course of a few months, my score improved to 730.
Verbal PreparationMaster Comprehension: This course was a game-changer, significantly enhancing my reading skills. It delves into sentence construction and deconstruction, allowing you to understand all aspects of a sentence.
Mastercomprehension is invaluable.
Sentence Correction: Adopting a meaning-based approach is the way to go, even though it may initially be time-consuming. It ultimately reduces time taken and improves accuracy.
Meaning is paramount.
Critical Reasoning: Prethinking is a game-changer here. Understanding arguments, visualizing scenarios, and prethinking are crucial for mastering critical reasoning.
Prethinking equals complete understanding.
Reading Comprehension: Take your time and read passages thoroughly. Reading slowly is the fastest way to comprehend the content. Don't rush; immerse yourself in the passage.
Read slowly to complete passages quickly.
Quant PreparationAs a Quant-savvy individual, I primarily focused on quizzes and utilized the Scholaranium AI for insight into my weaknesses. I discovered that I needed improvement in geometry and areas like probability and permutations and combinations. I practiced mostly on the questions I had previously answered incorrectly.
Forum and ScholaraniumE-GMAT's forum was a goldmine for me. It provided a different perspective on questions and helped me clarify doubts through interactions with Verbal SMEs. Scholaranium, with its vast question database, allowed me to identify my areas of weakness and hone my skills. The question quality closely matched the GMAT, and the available tools were top-notch.
MocksThroughout my three GMAT attempts, I used E-GMAT SigmaX mocks and mba.com mocks. The SigmaX mocks, especially the last one before my 730, were incredibly predictive of my real GMAT score. Mocks are a valuable resource; use them wisely. Also, maintain exam-like conditions – no pausing, water breaks, or restroom visits during mock exams.
Conclusion/Tips1. Trust the EGMAT process and the guidance of the experts. Always remember, meaning is king.
2. After each question, take a moment to relax and breathe deeply. Let go of the previous question to stay focused on the next.
