Tuck, LBS or INSEAD for career shift in IB or PE in EMEA?  [#permalink]

Hello,

Looking for some useful guidance here.
I have been admitted to Tuck, LBS and INSEAD (January intake).

First, a bit of background context
Raised and worked in EMEA country for 3.5 years in audit before being recruited in Netherland as consultant for an industrial group. I have been in this position for 2.5 years.

Objectives:
I am interested in joining a PE fund dedicated to emerging markets (with a strong preference on Africa) active either in London, Paris or Geneva/Zurich or directly located in Africa. I would be totally ok to do a stint in IB before switching to PE.

As a career changer, I believe (i) academic/club training, (ii) strong brand recognition and (iii) alumni network would be critical to help me reach my goals.

So I believe it comes down to :
- Which school will provide more resources given my short term objective (should it be IB)?
- Which network could prove more useful when I will have to land a PE job matching my location and portfolio geography objectives?

If in addition, I could be with a bunch of fun people, it would be nice -though I am a neutral on city/suburb location- !

Thanks for your help!

PS: I don't know yet if (and how much) I will receive scholarship from these schools but let's assume that money is not a strong problem.

Slightly different to your situation, but perhaps comments from GRichmond and co in this link are worth considering: https://www.clearadmit.com/decisionwire ... 5-24-2018/

While I am not up to date on the alumni network in PE for emerging markets, gonna give it a go!

First, if you want to work in EMEA, would go for INSEAD/LBS. Simpler, wider network, seems like a no brainer.

I think that both schools have a strong placement in IB/PE, while % are higher in LBS, would argue that absolute numbers are higher at INSEAD, for class size. As for network, same logic applies. Think they are 2 great schools, can't go wrong with them, and both will get you there, if your profile is good enough, which is the think I am asking myself by looking at your background.

So all in all, I think you would be better in a longer program, as you will have more networking time.

All the best!!!

Although I love Tuck vibe (not Tuckie), I would not advice to go for it as geography EMEA is dominate in your decsion. In your case, I would take INSEAD or LBS. Both have the reputation and network in the area you like. However, in any case, PE needs a lot of networking and relations. Also, you need to best place of IB if big names immigrate outside UK.

Good luck
