This is a representative problem of relative speed.

As cars are moving in opposite directions their speeds will be added. So their relative speeds: 16+14 = 30mph

Total distance to be covered = 45 miles.

Time taken would be: $$\frac{45 miles}{30mph}$$ = 1.5 hours

Time they will meet = total distance/ relative speed= 45/14+16= 45/30= 1.5

Let me assume that they meet after x hour

So for the First car ,traveled distance until they meet=14x mile

and for the Second car,traveled distance until they meet=16x mile

So,Total traveled distance=14x+16x=45 ,so x=$$\frac{3}{2}$$=1.5 hour

Speed R=14+16=30
Total Distance=45
so, Time when they meet =45/30=1.5h

relative speed = (16+14) = 30 mph (since they are travelling towards each other)
time = distance/speed = 45/30=3/2=1.5

We have to calculate the time they meet after beginnning their journey
Distance = 45 miles
Relative speed for 2 vehicles travelling in opposite directions is the sum of their speeds

Time = $$\frac{distance}{speed}$$ =$$\frac{45}{(14+16)}$$ = 1.5hrs

We’ll use the distance formula d = r x t. We know that the sum of the distances that the two cars travel will total 45 miles. Letting t = the time it takes for the two cars to meet, we can create the following equation:

14t + 16t = 45

30t = 45

t = 45/30 = 3/2 = 1.5
