Info 1: X holds 600 gallons more than Y --> X = Y+600
Info 2: If 100 gallons are pumped out from each X would then contain 3 times as much fuel as Y --> X-100 = 3(Y-100)
X = Y+600
X-100 = 3(Y-100) --> Y+600-100 = 3(Y-100)
Y=400, X=1000
Total fuel in both full tanks combined is 1400. Option A

Let the capacity of tank Y be y gallons.
Then, the capacity of tank X is y + 600 gallons.
If 100 gallons of fuel were pumped from each tank:
Tank Y would contain: y - 100 gallons.
Tank X would contain: (y + 600) - 100 = y + 500 gallons.
According to the problem, after pumping out the fuel:
y + 500 = 3(y - 100)
Solving the equation:
y + 500 = 3y - 300
500 + 300 = 3y - y
800 = 2y
y = 800 / 2
y = 400
Capacity of tank Y = 400 gallons.
Capacity of tank X = y + 600 = 400 + 600 = 1000 gallons.
Total number of gallons of fuel in both tanks:
x + y = 1000 + 400 = 1400
Therefore, the total number of gallons of fuel in the two full tanks is 1400.
