Smart method to avoid calculations of Fractions
Let, total work = 36 Units (LCM of 12 and 18)
i.e. P's 1 minute work\( = \frac{36}{12} = 3 \)units
i.e. Q's 1 minute work\( = \frac{36}{18} = 2 \)units
Work done by both pipes in 1 minutes \(= 3+2 = 5\) units
i.e. Time to fill the cistern \(= \frac{36}{5}\) minutes
Answer: Option D
