I have been accepted, but with no scholarship. As an international student, even after Anderson's need-based fin aid package (<$10k) to be decided upon in April, I find it almost impossible to come up with $80K by this summer for the purpose of getting the visa and starting the school year...Any advice? Am I overlooking any substantial sources of financing? My understanding is that UCLA's private loans for international students, offered by Eli Lilly Federal Credit Union, are received in Sep and are also capped at $40K (best scenario). Likewise, I am not sure whether TA positions are available for first years. I would appreciate any insights.

I faced the same issue. As an international student and even after getting a fellowship, i have to cough up 40K USD for two years of studies, after I qualify for the Eli Lilly loan. This is a big if in my mind and UCLA admissions folks haven't answered my questions on this matter. I need to show the necessary moolah for the visa paperwork

You are right. The Eli Lilly loan does not count towards the $80k for visa purposes.

For internationals, it is generally not advisable to show loan amount towards the cost of studies as far as visa application is concerned. However, you can always show the value of assets you /your family has (through your bank and support letter from your sponsors) to cover the cost of studies and living. It doesn't mean you really have to monetize those assets and spend from there. Good luck!
