Hi, sorry if this was already answered... I have an interview (R2) next week. My decision will partially depend on whether I get some sort of financial aid from the school. SO, i have 2 questions: 1. How long after the interview were you given a decision? 2. When did all of you find out if you had some sort of fellowship?
i think whoever suggested the invites are going by first letter of your last name was joking. usually invites are really random.

that does give people something to believe in...how do you think the applicants who are still waiting for invites with last names starting with the beginning of the alphabet feel if they think they're going alphabetically and their group is "done"?

Those individuals can then believe that invites are going out in a certain geographic order. Anything to make us sleep better at night.
dude, i'm not being a negative nancy. just be considerate of how other people are feeling. you might be joking, which is totally fine, but other posters/lurkers may not realize that and think you're being serious and think that's how the adcom's actually operating.
it's totally fine to have hope, that's not even the issue. i was just trying to clarify things so that people don't panic.
There is no geographical or last name or any structured order of reviewing applications and sending out invites. Invites are sent out as soon as adcom finishes the review. The process is random. Every application passes through 2-3 different adcom officers who have their own review speeds. You can have 1 guy who gets an interview invite 7 days after submitting an app while the other gets an invite 7 weeks later - theoretically speaking.
Shweta - there are plenty of Indian UCLA alumni based in India. You will get an email from the school linking you up with alumni. If the school cannot find an alumni, then a phone/skype interview takes place.
