I have admits from both HKU FT MBA with LBS track, and University of Illinois at Urabana-Champaign. Here are the statistics as per my research:
UIUC: Ranked 41 (FT)
HKU: Ranked 29 (FT)
Both colleges will cost the same, given that I got considerable scholarship at UIUC. UIUC will also have graduate/teaching assistantship opportunities,t hat HKU doesn't, which will bring the cost down further. Pleas, there will be no need to learn Mandarin (though I don't know if will absolutely have to learn Mandarin for HKU)
HKU will allow me to staudy at London Business School!!!! I have lived in London before and studied there, it would be a good opportunity to go back again!
For job opportunities, I don't think HKU will help me land a job in the US, but with a US degree, I feel I can get a job anywhere in the world.
Please help me decide!
Here's my profile for reference:
3 year IT Work Ex, in the Event solution webspace (This is not a common IT company)
Ample leading & managing experience
French Teacher (Part Time)
Lived and interned abroad
GMAT: 710
I want to switch functions from IT to HR, and venture into HR Consulting. (I know for a fact that UIUC has a dedicated HR track, but HKU does not)
While I agree that HKU won't help you to get job in the field you want, I can't agree also that US degree will allow you to get jobs in any place in the world. I mean you can get job within the the US, except you graduate form 10-15 universities.
I advice you to add other ranking in you research like Poets and Quant. it will give give you overview about American universities.
Also you can contact the career service directly to ask about the opportunity to place a foreigner in HR field. This will help you.
It is all about where you want to end up living and working.
