Ivan,

Yeah I had a similar situation and they said its fine but I should make sure to put them down as one of the institutions as well when I took the GMAT. If I were you I would send them an email though explaining that you score might be available a bit later on the online platform because you took it on the 22nd.

bt90,

Haha congratulations, I hope you enjoy LSE :)

I just got the admission letter. No supplementary courses, only the German A1 course.
What a pitty, sometimes it is better not to have the option to decide because I like the MBF program a lot, but is hard to reject LSE... the only reason I'd consider HSG is because the competition is not as insane as in London... what's your opinion guys?

Are you an EU citizen? Right to work can be extremely hard to get after LSE; not sure how it is with Switzerland but I've heard problems there as well. The placement statistics of the MBF are much more impressive than LSE's finance. 100,000 USD salary vs. 55,000 USD. I've posted elsewhere about some of the negatives of LSE that I've heard. Here they are: mf-pe-at-lse-vs-mif-hec-paris-195752.html#p1512968 I also wouldn't place too much weight on the name of LSE if it means it can't get you a job afterwards, and for what it's worth, HSG is extremely prestigious within the German speaking world, while LSE is second fiddle to Oxbridge.

The criticisms of St. Gallen by Snowden are on the 2014 MBF intake, along with some rebuttals.

Key considerations: 1 year vs. 2 year, right to work after graduation, and how far you can take your German skills.

Yes I am an EU citizen. The placement statistics of the MBF are almost unbelievable, too good to be true. 100% of employment after 3 months and 100,000CFH average starting salary... I mean... where is the trick? Also, where can I see the statistics of the LSE MSc Finance?

10% unemployment for the MSc Finance. Yikes. I think those are mainly non-EUs, though.

And yes, HSG's placement does almost seem too good to be true, but at the same time, it is Switzerland. Unemployment is what, 2-3 percent? GDP per capita nominal is 85,000. I've talked with Swiss people and they've confirmed that salaries are absurd in general. They might have less of a bonus culture, on the other hand, to make up for the high salary. Not sure. Living costs are also absurd in Zurich, but probably not that much worse than London, if even worse.

Well, I will try to reach some current students and alumni from HSG to see how true is that... I already talked to some recent LSE alumni and they have good jobs but they also say that getting interviews is not as easy as many people think...

Probably the best course of action. I'd inquire into the entire German speaking issue as well - that's probably going to be the biggest roadblock there.

About the statistics from that link, take into account that the data is for the aggregate of the years 2011, 2012 and 2013, which were probably the worst years to find a job in the finance/banking industry in Europe so I would not take it as a reference. Things are way better in the UK now than in 2012.

That may very well be true. Regardless, as a non-EU, I'm not really planning on bothering with the UK. Immigration policies are way too harsh ATM for me to have a decent shot for a job, and the tuition fees are rough as well. In your case, the issue is less cut and dry, especially if you have solid internship experience to match.

All in all I think that the language factor will be decisive for me as my level of German is just basic. Regarding the work permit, I believe your options are about the same in UK or in Switzerland... priority to locals and EU citizen is a reality. Plus, swiss authorities are not known to be lenient with these topics...

Switzerland allows a six month job seeking residency permit after graduation. The UK, AFAIK, does not. They recently repealed that law. Switzerland, of course, has the added difficulty of language issues - but yes, the picture there is probably not too rosey either. I've heard that HR at banks won't bother filling the paperwork for work permits.

Well, you can always do whatever Master you want to do and then look for a job in your country if its brand name is superior to your local b-schools. I am sure many Asians, for example, do not care about work permits because they go right back to China or Hong Kong with an excellent job offer as LSE brand is extremely well regarded there... St. Gallen in the DACH region rules, I do not know in your country.

In terms of statistics the salary seems very reasonable (I live in Switzerland) and it is considered the standard entry level salary in finance (with maybe a premium of 10,000). However the employment statistics are actually based on only 61% of respondents so I would take those with a grain of salt. As for employment and permits, I have heard that there is a lot of discrimination against people who do not hold a current work permit. My concerns with the UK would be the upcoming elections and the referendum on EU membership as should they decide to leave, you are left in a Switzerland like situation.

In terms of competition, I think at HSG it will be similar as at LSE, but I think for the workplace you are right. That being said that if you want to focus on your career a lot, one could easily argue that London is the place to be.

Oh and congrats on getting the offer :D Can I ask did they send you an email first or did you just receive the offer in the post ?

I'm American, and I'd rather not go back, haha. Not a big fan of the country, unless it's NYC. Sans maybe Oxbridge, the brand name won't help too much against local schools. Maybe I'll apply to the MFE for Oxford next year, though I'm also worried about one year programs as I currently have no internship experience and this summer is too short due to study abroad.

Anyways, good luck with whatever you end up choosing.

Hey :) Would you be kind enough to share your GMAT / GPA :)

Usually people reported in the previous years results of the applications in late May / early June but it seems that we already have a winner here :)

Congrats bt90 !

I just wanted to say that you are facing a hard dilemma but do not base the decision on the short term financials - cost of living and/or tuition because these are very insignificant in the longer run.

Just think about where exactly you would enjoy living - DACH or London :)

I am sure you would have great career options in both places.

My GMAT is 740 and my GPA converted to the american scale is 3.84/4.0, but I have no idea which courses they will regard as relevant during the conversion.

bt90, congratulations on your admission!
