hey westsider, u said they've decided on the tuition. Can u tell us how much the've set. I thought I will just ask here coz UW is really late in replyin to mails. Had written to them a couple of days bak askin whether the've mailed out the scholarship details which they said they wud in a month but havent had a hint of a reply. I donno y they r so bad at replyin to mails coz other schools m applyin 2 r just so good at it and they receive more if not the same amount of applications as UW does. They just amaze me with their I donno wat attitute. Many times i have had to write to them twice 2 get an earlier reply. Neone who is on the same boat as me or am I the only one here UW is managing to piss off royally!!!!!
hey tanvip, wat u r referrin to r the estimates!!!!! westsider had earlier posted that they hv come out with the actuals so wanted to know that. Neways thanks for the info. Looks like u r plannin to go to UW this fall too. C u there
Got a thick envelope from UW, was really excited till I opened it. A cd with their 2008 student guide (available online since I got admitted 2 months ago), a tri-fold brochure with a list of clubs, and the quartlery Foster newsletter, which I had picked up in a campus visit in January.
It would be nice to get that one last, tiny little thing, you know... what is it called again? OH RIGHT.. the finaid packet!!!
You atleast have something from UW but we internationals are not even that lucky. Like I always complain they are very late in corresponding and when I asked them whether they had sent out the scholarship mails they got back to me after 3 days saying there will not be anything substantial in that packet anyway and if I needed to know anything to contact them directly. Now I am not even looking forward to that packet anymore!!!!! Dan Poston had sent such a nice article about choosing schools and in the end of that article he had also written that I could get in touch with him for any inquiries. I wrote back to him thinking this UW staff would be different and he has proven me wrong yet again. Anyways, I guess these are just minor hiccups and I don't think these should be factors that I should consider in deciding against what I believe is a great program.
Indeed. I think its time to dust off the old saying from my undergrad days about administrators. Not that administrative skill is high on my list of importance for choosing a school, just that I know not to expect much. Words to live by: "If they are sitting behind a desk they are either lying or wrong."
i dont necessarily think that R4 is a bad time to apply because it could go both ways. If UW has not been able to fill up the spots and more importantly by now most people will have sent in the deposits (like me) then I think UW will get a little weary about whether the percentage of people that they are hoping to enroll will actually enroll. So, they might just admit a few more people in R4 to compensate for that. Having said that, I had noticed that in 2006, they only took in 87 people which I am sure was because of bad enrollment percentages. I asked my interviewer this question and as expected his answer was something like: Our target class size is 100 but if by any chance we dont get people according to you admission standards then we will be happy with anything less than 100. Their actions however suggested something different to me. In 2007 they took in 117 people. Now this suggests to me that UW overcorrected and got very weary of its enrollment rates and admitted a lot more people than they wanted to. In 2007 the enrollment rates went up and they ended up with a bigger class size. I guess it's tough being a B school because people just have so many choices. It's a buyer's market out there. So all you R4 guys, I guess this helps and boosts ur morale!!!!!
llmll, congrats on your admissions!!! Looks like a lot of us on this forum will actually be attending Foster this fall so I think we should all get to know each other a little better. Its easier for most of you because you all are already in Seattle but what can we do for us internationals!!!!! I guess westsider will have to come up with another one of his great ideas to help us out. Hey westsider, aren't you already thinking.............. !
