The answer is B.

The part-‘ which are-bore’ is simply placed to confuse. The real comparison is between an oboe and clarinets on one hand and bassoons on the other. Oboe is singular here which fails to match the other two entities.

So either oboe needs to be plural or clarinets and bassoons needs to be singular.

By checking the options, we find that only the first case exists so that is the answer.

Aren't it clarinets plural in both A and B?Why do oboes have to be plural again?

Unlike X, Y is the correct idiom. I don't think the "are" in the non-underlined portion is the correct way to eliminate A and D since the relative modifier "which" is describing two subjects here (oboe and clarinet) and hence the plural usage may be correct.

I eliminated A & D on the basis that X and Y have to be parallel and since the "Y" i.e. "bassons" was plural, "X" should also be plural and hence A (usage of an clearly indicating singularity) & D (a oboe indicates singularity) did not fit the bill.

I dont think this is a compound subject? I mean i don't know if these are very interlinked instruments.

Experts - please confirm if my POE was correct?
